Football Sucks and will soon be extinct
I hate it, all my friends hate it, all the players do is kill and rape people, what kind of role models are they?
All the records they are trying to break were set by O.J. (Murderer) Simpson.
If there is no football what will replace it you ask?

Football is the best sport going, IMO.
And O.J. Simpson holds no major records as far as I know. The rushing record (the record O.J. would be in position to hold, as a RB) was held by Walter Payton until this past season, when Emmit Smith surpassed him.
If you're going to trash a sport, at least get your facts straight.

Professional sports are completely stupid, period. Its a bunch of grunts who often have no other skills who are extremely snobbish because they are good at this one thing, plus they get paid exorbitant amounts of money, while teachers, for example, make smurf.
I think there should be two types of sports: replace high school sports with youth community teams. That way, money from the school isn't going toward, say, football uniforms. Also, it would not be a part of school, so school favoritism toward athletes would probably subside. (No more excused days off for the hockey team because they have a game 6 hours away.) And I think that professional sports should have an extremely low salary cap. That way, you get rid of the snobbery involved, and you would instead get players who are playing because they love to play, not because they love to get rich.

I've got to admit that I've never understood why people like football.
I like soccer and basketball.
I prefer to play rather than watch, also, but I do watch those two sometimes.

I'm sick of all sport in general. Anything that makes you physically exert yourself. Ugh. OK, it's just organised sport that I hate. If I'm going to play some sports-y thing, it'll be on my time, with the people of my choice. OK?

When I first came to the States I didn't like (American) football because I didn't understood the rules and because it was so different than soccer, (football) to which I was acustomed and liked. But now after 2 years I can say that I really like it, and can't wait for todays superbowl. Other than the Texas Longhorns I am not yet a fan of a specific team though. I just like to watch good games with friends.
On a side note I don't think that soccer would cause in the States any of the trouble it's some times causing in Europe (which are very rare if you consider how many games are being played) because that has to do with the fans and not the sport itself.

I think you are mixing problems. The problems that you stated can be applied to many other professional sports aside from football. Pro basketball and baseball come to mind rather quickly. Sports stars in many of the major sports have lost touch with reality due to the ridiculous amount of money and attention they receive. If you want to attack something attack the idol worship that we the fans propagate. We cause their behavior and drive the crazy amount of money they receive by placing too much importance on them. Sports are fun to watch and provide many excellent skills and life lessons to many people, but they have become corrupted at the professional level, and to a lesser extent at the college level (see Miami Hurricane football as an example here), by a serious lack of reality. Love that game, but put it in its place. Its not just football its all sports and even beyond that. Look at the amount of money top stars get for making a movie. Talk about just plain silly. I wont even go into boy bands and brittney spears, but you get the point. Our priorities as a society are way skewed and only we the consumers can fix the problem.

i dont like any proffesional sports, but i enjoy watching a good game of *college* football. most other sports are kind of boring to me, especially baseball, as its just a pitch and a hit, and then people running in a big circle trying not to get touched by a ball.
i think that many sports personalities are not the best people for "the youth of america" to follow. however, this IS true for hollywood, music, etc etc etc

I get a lot of flack for this, but the only sport I really love to watch is gollf. I suppose it looks boring on the surface, but I play it (badly), and the idea that I could be standing there with half a million dollars riding on a short putt is enough to make it tense and exciting.

Hell, I can even take a 1-0 soccer game over baseball, but only barely. Soccer stinks too.
Those who hate football are apparently not too familiar with it. Watch closer next time, and take a look at the strategy that is involved. Not to offend chess players, but it really is liking watching a chess game when two good coaches are involved, except it's a little more exciting, and there are hotter chicks in the crowd.

I would like football except for two things. Those smurfing huge pads that the players wear, and it is sooo smurfing slooow. The last time I was at an American footbal game it took the two teams half a smurfing hour to play 15 minutes. Rugby is more touch and go. It doesn't stop moving.

Actually, if you count total attendance to games, football isn't even close to baseball. In fact, football, basketball, and hockey (the "big three" competitors to baseball) COMBINED have less attendance than baseball in a year. Baseball might have (major) problems, but I doubt MLB would be going out of business any time before the NFL, NBA or NHL. And while I don't know about mechandising, I can say that while individual football games might get higher ratings than individual baseball games, total viewership of baseball is higher than total viewership of football. (Now, if only Peter Angelos would get a working brain cell...)

second, please provide a link that shows baseball has higher attendance, etc. it's pretty well known football has been the number one sport in the US for a long time now.

Well, to be fair, doesn't each baseball team have like 400 games in a season? Of course attendance is better if you have a league that plays 3000 games a year. Average out attendance per game, and I'm sure it doesn't reach the 40000+ of an average NFL game. Same goes for ratings -- put an NFL game against a MLB game on any given night, and you'll see the NFL win almost every time. Because it's such a good, exciting product, it's definitely overtaken baseball as the national sport.

I assume this was for me considering the 2nd portion.
As far as a link goes. try the local landfill. I read it in the newspaper. They took each teams season attendance for MLB, the NFL, the NBA & the NHL, and they added every teams figures together to come up with the total fans per season. Due to the shortness of their season the NFL can't come close (No football team does 1 million a year in attendance, while quite a few baseball teams do better than 1 million attendance per seasonand MLB has quite a few more teams than the NFL).
In any case, being the "number one" sport depends on how you do the numbers. It's the same way that both Ford & GM claim to being "number one" in trucks in sales. You use whatever numbers work for you. Baseball sells far more tickets per year than any other sport. Football has larger amounts of people at each individual game and the tickets cost about 4-5 times as much as a baseball ticket. But to use that to say it's the most popular & has been for a long time doesn't make it true. And if you want to go for true popularity, name the last time 4 billion people watched the Super Bowl. Soccer (aka REAL football) makes everything else look like a niche sport.
