When you ban a person from a forum...

Could you give the person a reason for doing so by email?

Specific rule violations would be much appreciated.

Thanks!

Re: When you ban a person from a forum...

From Minithink, although I was given no reason why. In fact, I received no warnings about my posts lately that would leave me to believe this would happen. I've certainly done nothing terrible or dramatic. I may have come on a little strong, but I figured I should at least get some indication I was over the line.

I've asked and I still hadn't received a instance where a post I made violated the rules in some way that merits removal from Minithink.

If they wanted me to calm down some, I wished they just told me. I would have been happy to comply. I was only replying with the same style I was receiving. In fact, some of the posts people were making in the debates were quite a bit worse than anything I've ever done.

I just wished I knew I had done something wrong so this could have been avoided. I hope they don't set the ban for too long.

You've been given numerous chances to calm down (two bans, and numerous warnings).  The only thing I can't believe is that you're actually surprised that bad behavior leads to permanent status change here.

I hadn't received any warnings (unless you are talking about something from WAY far back), only bans. I don't believe I was ever given a reason for a banning either, so I had no idea if it was my attitude or you just didn't like me around.

The only time i got feedback on something I said was on something I didn't say. Bedstuy made a sarcastic (though insulting) comment in response to my post, saying something about me being a Nazi that wanted to gas homosexuals. I quoted him and responded to his flippant charge. I was actually banned for threatening homosexuals for quoting what he said. I was accused of wanting to gas homosexuals when it was a gay guy that said it.

I had not been asked flat out to change my behavior, nor have I gotten feedback on my posts really, except with that last weird exception.

For this recent banning from Minithink, I had received absolutely no warnings or prior indication that this was going to happen. I didn't even receive an email and I have yet to be given any reason for such a harsh response. I was banned from minithink without being given a single reason or instance for it. Could you please tell me what I did recently that merited the status change?

I've asked time and time again that if someone, be it a member or especially a moderator, has a problem with one of my posts or attitude, I'll be happy to comply and adjust it. Rather than getting feedback of this type, which I think it standard procedure for any respected forum, I'm basically ignored and this is the only way I can know when there is any issue, when it is already too late. Even then, I don't know what exactly you took issue with.

Given what seems to be allowed at minithink, I have had a hard time determining what style of a response is correct. I'm more than happy to dramatically tone-down my posts if that is what you'd like.

I mean, I get a post like this in response to saying that the Canadian Health Care system stinks. In response, I call someone's ideology liberal or socialist and give reasons why and *I'm* banned?

Would you please shut the f*ck up with your anti-liberal bullsh*it. God damn, you're like a broken record.

There is a problem with the health care in this country. Either attempt to be a part of figuring out the solution, or sit on the sidelines and keep to your mypoic self. I don't care which one you choose.

Just choose.

I don't think even the most easily offended person could take my posts as harshly as this and other recent posts in minithink have been.

it seems certain people are immune to bannings. i don't want to name names, but there are definitely people who for one reason or another are allowed to get away with bullsmurf around here.

Since you so conveniently left it out, let's examine for a bit what provoked that response, shall we?

And these people are the left-leaning posters.

In the three years I have gone to minithink, it has become apparent there is a handful of these left-of-centrist posters who use flames, trolling, baiting and sockpuppets to run off posters.

We actually have had some well-mannered and thoughtful people on minithink in the past, but they seem to run off because they get sick of either being attacked, seeing the attacks or baited.

You have people there that would spam topics with multiple accounts to drive people away. Now that that has been clamped down, they seem to resort to personal attacks or distortions of what people said. Before anyone thinks I have a persecution complex, I'm by no means suggesting I am the only person this happens to.
I also want to say it isn't leftist or liberal posters in general that do this. There are perfectly civilized non-conservatives/libertarians, I'm sure most on mini-think are.

But, there are a few now that will bait and attack posters until they leave or actually respond with enough of an attitude for them to cry foul and then complain about it to a moderator.

I'm not the only one that believes this by any means. I have had moderators in the past tell me this is exactly what is going on and all I can do is ignore it until the perpetrators do enough to get noticed.

Minithink is in need of help and banning conservative/moderate members who are personally attacked on a daily basis is not a solution. It is giving into the manipulation that has been going on for years. Until it is addressed, they will continue to bait and flame.

Wow, that's pretty harsh!

And i have to deal with personal attacks there on a daily basis. Posters have openly mocked me in front of matters and said I had a lesbian girlfriend, etc etc.

Then, if I respond with a comment in kind, which doesn't even hold a candle to the sort of personal attacks I've seen, I'm banned.

The reality of the situation? It is easier to get rid of me and other posters the extremists don't like then actually handle the problem.

It may very well be. I'm not a liberal poster, so I'm not subject to the conservative/libertarian posters who may do this as well.

Either way, they need to go after the people that are baiting, then whining, rather than going after their targets.
