Re: What college are you going to?
I know that when I went to a liberal arts institution, in my English workshops in particular, when confronted by the professor about the festering steampile of an assignment that I had turned in for pre-edit, all I'd have to do is motion over my shoulder and say
"At least I didn't plagiarize. Like that guy."
This professor ended up being my poetry writing workshop instructor. And during a public reading, at the conclusion she deadpan announced that she'll catch that dammed plagiarist. Some day.

no they dont. they go to whatever frat house the basketball team is at at the moment and people get mugged day to day. My friend has known way too many of her friends and all get stuck up.
She comes to my place at Madison when she wants to party.

Lived there for 5 years and never got mugged. Although I never ventured out to Marquette too much, I am sure the frat boys are looking for money out there and they will get desperate
.....I was speaking more of the bars and clubs that milwaukee has to offer (and NO not water street!)....Madison is a nice town (but I would have to say mildly overrated, but aren't all college towns!)

Re: What college are you going to?
its not the poor frat boys so much it is the poor homeless drug-addicts which litter the area surrounding Marquette.... and it really is true that there is one party on any weekend, its where ever the basketball team is. I'm sure Millwalkee has its good parts and good bars though I think that cities fail at being 'college towns' or even 'college friendly' in most cases because it is a city first and just happens to have one or more colleges in it.
and no for the record Madison isn't over rated, its beautiful, just the right size, accomodates campus life and students very well and is the best goddamn place to be in the midwest thursday-saturday night

a bit hotheaded about your favorite little college town. my personal opinion is that it is overrated (i find that most college towns are and I am probably bias because I enjoy urban areas over "towns" anyway) , your personal opinion is that it is the best goddamn place to be in the midwest thurday-saturday night. I find that wisconsin in general is a great place to be any day of the week (isn't that special). the part of milwaukee that you speak of just sucks in general anyways (which i think we have established) .....the only person that i know that has gotten attacked in that area was attacked by frat boys....hmmm funny where were the homeless drug addicts when you needed them....

Re: What college are you going to?
I just dont get how people can not like madison.
as for Millwakee suck levels... well I'm from Chicago, I cant say I'm not bias against it...but I think I know the kind of 'towns' your talking about and I dont feel that madison is one of them because if UW disappeared suddenly the vast majority of what comprises madison wouldnt shut down and go out of business unlike lots of 'college towns' across the nation I've been to.

Re: What college are you going to?
i would have to agree with you there.......i never said i didn't like madison....just said it was overrated....trust me if purdue vanished.....west lafayette indiana would cease to exist....and i will admit madison is better than most po-dunk college towns that are scattered across this great land....

Eastern Washington University- (correct- moving from nice, sunny, good lookin' CA to ~eh Spokane is odd, but it's Film dept. is less competitive than in SF. It has seasons fer crying out loud! what's a season?! will i need long pants?! (of course not!, i never wear any). at least campus poulation is 60% female

That's a debatable point. Madison is just about 210,000 total population, 41,000 of that being UW students. 20% isn't a big percentage by itself, but when you consider the amount of former UW graduates that ended up hanging around Madison, that adds up to a pretty big population base.
Personally, I would have prefered a town the size of Madison to a college town like West Lafayette, but after the application decisions came back, my only options were Marquette and Purdue. And the area around Marquette isn't half bad if you've ever been to areas around Johns Hopkins in Baltimore, or UPenn in Philly, for example.

Re: What college are you going to?
just because its less dangerous around Marquette than John Hopkins doesn't make it safe though. I have never once felt 'threatened' or uncomfortable with the neighbohood in Madison, can't say the same for Marquette.
and I dont think its really debatable considering it is the state capitol and has that low % student population relative to size. I'm not saying it would look exactly the same, however there are many many college towns that would simply be farm land for miles if it were not for the college in it

Re: What college are you going to?
Listen up everone!....lets agree with Marc.....Madison is the end all, be all.....and you will get shot and mugged at Marquette because of all the non-white folk that live in the neighborhoods around the campus.....long live Madison (with it's sustainable population, with or without the college students) and the safety it provides it's students while they party....hmmm.... it just seems so silly to argue when every college and college town is so inferior to Madison!
