Wolf ET Dashboard Widget?
Does anyone know the code to have it tell you who and what map is on a particular server?
I want to make a Widget that tells you this information.
Anyone want to help with the coding? I am a designer and can probably handle most of it, but any outside help is welcome.
Take care,
Denny

I can help do some graphics design, then again, you are a designer so you'll probably easily do it
I don't have tiger yet, but I do have konfabulator which is a widget system too.

Re: Wolf ET Dashboard Widget?
The server query script on the wolf site still works, I just haven't updated it with the new IP. In the meantime, this link works:

I don't have Tiger yet (will probably end up buying a Mini sometime soon to replace my aging dual 450) but once I do I'll look into working on the coding backend. I'll probably implement the querying as a PHP script that will be bundled with the widget.
Note to self...wrap my head around this:

I splurged and got a refurbed 1.6Ghz G5 iMac instead of the mini. Should be here in about a week.

Re: Wolf ET Dashboard Widget?
Any chance that the widget could also function to let you into a server? Like have it say the map and such of a couple favorite servers, but the widget would also start ET and put you on your favorite server all in one click? Tons of PC programs that do this, but no Mac. I would LOVE this feature in a widget.

Not to sound like a broken record, but the guys who did Only Mortal for RTCW mentioned they could very likely do a browser for ET, mabe it's time to approach them with gifts & credit card numbers. I think it's {NCG}Mike over on the IMG boards.

Re: Wolf ET Dashboard Widget?
Maybe in a couple of year I'll be able to do that, but as it stands I'm a poor 21 year old college student getting ready to shell out 50k for law school. My credit card doesn't see much use at this point.

That's doable, but it would need to be limited to about 4-5 servers & would probably need to go into a separate widget. Apple recommends in the dashboard docs that widgets are used as single-function mini apps. The widget that I am working on will display the server name, map running, and list the players playing for one server that can be configured on the reverse side of the widget.
I'm pretty sure you can pass cvars to the wolf app by calling one of the files in the wolfet.app folder (something like wolfet.app/contents/macos/wolfet +connect 128.242.54.116 should work).

Re: Wolf ET Dashboard Widget?
So are you working on a Widget then? All I want is a Widget solely for our clan and server. I just want it to tell the map and who's online. The other stuff is cool, but I wanted to start simple.
I did think it would be cool if you could fill in on the back of the widget the IP address, thus allowing any ET server to be used with that widget.
Kind of like the weather widgets. You put in your zip and it does it's job.
I did find this site that uses a PHP gQuery script.
http://enemy-territory.4players.de:1041 … Gameserver
Note that it tells players and stuff too. I am trying to see if this will work for us.
Altivec, catch me online and we can chat and work on this if you like. I am really anxious to get a widget done.
Take care,
Denny

Re: Wolf ET Dashboard Widget?
This is what I came up with so far from a simple php script I found.
http://studiosix30.com/clients/rtcw/widget01/
There's another bit of code, but it's not working.
I think I can take this code and make it look pretty. I think...
If someone is interested in helping out or looking at the code, let me know.
Take care,
Denny

Re: Wolf ET Dashboard Widget?
I was going to work on the coding and leave the graphics to someone else. What you made is a good start, but it still needs some 'widget-iti-zation' (needs a background PNG, 2nd side, plist files, etc). My iMac will be here Friday, in the meantime I've been trying to create a skeleton for the widget using Xcode. It's kind of difficult to wrap my head around it since I don't know very much javascript and I don't have any of the example widgets that come with Tiger.
If you check versiontracker or macupdate there is a template for XCode that creates all of the necessary files needed for the widget. The Dashboard Programming Guide has a lot of good information.
What I was thinking was this:
Side 1: Display name of the server, IP, # of players, current map on the top half. On the bottom have 2 columns for axis and allies, showing the players and frags for each player on each team. Click the name of the server and WolfET launches and connects you to the server.
Side 2: Preferences where you set the IP and Port of the server you want info for, and how often to query (don't allow values less than 10-15 seconds to keep the server from being slammed with requests). Drag the WolfET application anywhere on the backside so the widget knows where it is so it can launch and connect to the server.

Re: Wolf ET Dashboard Widget?
I am working on the graphics right now. I grabbed a bunch of screenshots from playing tonight. I love the idea. A nice compact Widget for quick info, but expand it and you can see who's playing.
I wonder if it would be easier to just have a spot to put your server information in, so other Clans could use our widget?
Just a thought.
Take care,
Denny

Re: Wolf ET Dashboard Widget?
The iMac arrived today, and it's pretty sweet. I'll probably get to work on the widget sometime tonight or tomorrow.
Denny, can you re-send me the image you came up with last week minus all of the text?

Re: Wolf ET Dashboard Widget?
Just wondering how this is going. I think this is a fantastic idea and wish I could help. I'm not going to have Tiger for another 2 months, and then my summer goal is to teach myself some programming to be able to help in the future with this type of thing. One question. Can you run multiple copies of the same widget? In other words if this widget you guys make only works for one server, could someone have 3 of these widgets running to monitor their 3 favorite servers?
Thanks,
Target

It turns out that the iMac had bad hardware. It died after 5 hours of use.

Re: Wolf ET Dashboard Widget?
i put together a quick widget that shows how many players are on the server and which map is currently being played. this was just a quick expirament to figure out how dashboard works compared to konfabulator. download it here and let me know what you all think. i know more options like being able to look at different server stats and who is actually online were requested. all very possible, but this is just what i got done quickly.

Re: Wolf ET Dashboard Widget?
Nice work!
I havent got a chance to see it in action since I'm at work, but I did download it and pick it apart. I see that it pulls the info from a PHP script running on a site. I think that would be the best way to code the widget quick to get it out to the masses, but eventually I'd like to put the code that pulls the server info into the widget directly in the form of a PHP or Perl script (or widget plugin written in Cocoa) that queries the game server directly.

Re: Wolf ET Dashboard Widget?
sorry everyone.. my server went down (effecting both people trying to download the widget and the php query which showed content on the widget). amnesty should work with this as well.. it is just probably the issue the server i was using. i am looking for better web hosting, updating the widget, and will post again here when all is working again. let me know if you know of any good hosts.
