Tiger . . .are you guys experiencing bugs too???
Gee . . .pains me to have to admit this . .. but I had . . .ugh . ..3 crashes today
Two of the occasions I left my desk for an hour or so . . .then returned to find about the time it would have gone to sleep . . .it froze . . .the other time it went to sleep and I couldn't wake it back up.
This is a two month old Dually G5 with 2 gigs of RAM . . .Just upgraded to OS X.4 on Tuesday . .. everything's been fine 'til now.
Anyone else experiencing this???
Kind Regards

I've been hearing that a clean install is the way to go with Tiger. That's what I did and haven't had any issues besides the occasional Safari quitting on me with many pages open.

Other than my QT7 problem and my extra user that clamav set up, I've been okay.
When I get a new HD though, I'm going to do a clean install. I just have too much stuff in my Home folder to back up on DVD.

Re: Tiger . . .are you guys experiencing bugs too???
I've suffered multiple kernel panics since installing it. I have a feeling it might have been precipitated by fink recompilations, but generally, I'm working on several things at once, so it's difficult to pin down the cause. I've run the hardware tests, so I'm pretty sure it's software related.

Clean install, and no problems system wise. Dashboard crashed once the first day, but no other problems that I remember.

The worst bug I've experirenced so far is on one occation when I wanted to bring up the spotlight thingy at the top right corner by pressing cmd+space it turned up behind the menu bar instead of under it... After rebooting this has never happened again... I've also encountered some odd mosue cursor behaviour in some instances, but nothing that really affects my work, or the functionality of my mac...
Clean install, Power Mac G4 tower 933MHz 768MB RAM...

Serious slowdowns on my Quicksilver 733 G4. My Pismo 500 G3 runs better with Tiger!

Archive and install (going from 10.2.8 > 10.4, yet) worked pretty well for me, including Photoshop 7. Painless and very quick process. Archive and install left one Adobe file behind in the Previous Systems folder (Adobe Font Something; forgot the name, but it's easily identifiable); move it manually to (HD) / Library and you're good to go.
Only PS-related bummer so far is that PS now claims my LaserJet 1200 is not a PostScript printer, and prints some images as page after page of text. (Preview prints them fine, though.) Probably a print driver issue.

Re: Tiger . . .are you guys experiencing bugs too???
I never upgrade my X system, qalways do a clean install. Seems like a recipe for disaster, no matter what apple says. Too many variables for errors.
That said, I've had issues with spotlight, but that's what 10.4.1 is for.
Bugs will be there, just as long as they aren't of the wipe-out-my-whole-harddrive variety.

I just upgraded.
Nothing worng nowhere. Everything runs smooth exept iPhoto doesn't update my pictures after I've edited them which is a common complaint on the Apple discussion forum

Re: Tiger . . .are you guys experiencing bugs too???
Upgraded from 10.3.9 on both my Powerbook and G4 QS2002 with no trouble at all..
Had one Kernal Panic while I was messing with my Bluetooth adapter and the firmware updater trying to get my supposedly supported Motorola phone to work with iSync (on the QS tower)..
First Kernal Panic Ive had with OS X in like 3 years! (only other one was my brand new 1ghz Titanium Powerbook had something up with it when I took it out of the box. Reinstall fixed that though)
My system is primarily an audio workstation.. Logic 6 Pro, and all my hardware and audio apps are working just as they did before, if not quite a bit snappier. Like someone mentioned at OSXAudio.com, Ive NEVER seen Peak 4 (or any version) open as fast as it does on Tiger! Did some tracking at the studio the other night with no trouble..
So far all my design stuff, Dreamweaver MX 2004, Adobe CS seems to be working fine too..
The first day, Mail was incredibly slow and just about unusable, would take about 3-5 minutes to load each new message I had (I use an IMAP server). Due to the the amount of mail on several audio lists Im on, I usually clean out my mailboxes on the 1st of each month.. Once I did that (my Logic Audio Users Group alone had 3000+ messages for April) Mail is running quite a bit quicker than Panther's version..
After figuring out Cingular added an extra character to my Motorolas model number, and modifying one of iSyncs plists, everything else is now running just perfect!

Re: Tiger . . .are you guys experiencing bugs too???
Most of the time when boot my Mac now there is a folder in the Trash called "Recovered Items". It always contains one generic file called "Download Comment". I do have such a plugin for Safari and it works fine.
Also, I'm getting some weird messages on shutdown - various things not shutting down gracefully, ignoring SIGTERM, having to be killed. I dunno, everything works fine as far as I can tell.

I had a problem with Safari yesterday and it turned out to be a bad plist preference file, you might want to look into that

Re: Tiger . . .are you guys experiencing bugs too???
Nine upgrade and three archive installs so far and the only problem was having to reset the printing system on one machine to get USB printer sharing going. I don't count the thirty or so various application and utility updates as problems -- they just had to be done.
The only remaining incompatibilities are Virex, and VPC and those are not Apple's fault. The one Apple glitch I have run into is the inability for Spotlight and/or Finder to find invisible files. I presume that will be patched in 10.4.1 but that will probably be a while before we see that.
It is taking a while to find and work my way through all the various changes. The one that has surprised me the most is Mail 2.0. The Automatic mailboxes are changing the way I manage my mail and I haven't gotten that all worked out to my satisfaction yet. Leaving deleted messages in the mailboxes is taking some getting used to but I can see how that will turn out to be useful and possibly even saving me some embarrassment.

I've done a clean install and all I can say is that it's a good OS, but for business it's not ready... there are still too many issues that need to be "fleshed out" first.

Likewise. Ditto. Yeah same here. Nothing wrong. Absolutely wonderful.
That being said, I'll prolly have a kernel panic in 5 minutes.
