Tiger slower than 10.3.X ??

I've only briefly looked at some of the threads on this forum, but it seems that most problems people are having are blatnant bugs.  I noticed that my mac (Quicksilver 867Mhz 512megs of RAM) became very pokey once I put Tiger on it.

AlchemyTV is increadibly slow to load up and slow to change channel (actions that were quick before in 10.3.X)

Spotlight is damn slow at finding results (this could be my particular hardware, but I don't think it to be that old).  Almost all other applications that I used before also seem to be responding slower to my mouse and keystrokes.

Anyone else notice this on their systems?

PS - anyone with an AlchemyTV card, have you had a similar slowdown with their 2.3 release?  (maybe its their software and not Tiger for this particular application)

Has spotlight finished indexing?

Re: Tiger slower than 10.3.X ??

Yes, it finished indexing 2 days ago.  Spotlight is slow as is the system.

I did just finish reading one thread that suggested that doing an upgrade or an archive and install (as I chose to do) will cause Tiger to be less responsive than if one did a clean install.  If this is true, it would be rediculous for Apple to expect everyone to perform a clean instll in order to have an acceptable experience.  Hopefully this is not the case and is something else.

I doubt that is the problem. 2 systems does not a pattern make. So how much disk space do you have? Try to uninstall the 3rd party drivers.

Re: Tiger slower than 10.3.X ??

I have 7.5 Gigs of disk space on the hard drive with the OS on it (plenty for swapping).

If by third party drivers you mean for hardware devices, I have only one, the AlchemyTV capture card.  I will try taking this out of the system, but am skeptical that this is the cause.

I would remove any 3rd party system extensions as they are the only things you can actually modify.
