iTunes 4.8
So, I see there is a new iTunes showing up at Apple.com, version 4.8. But I can't find release notes on it. Anyone have any idea what has changed with this release?

iTunes 4.8 includes new Music Store features and support for transferring contacts and calendars from your computer to your iPod.

Well I've got Tiger and I've got an iPod, yet I can't seem to find where or what these improvements are. I just downloaded it and it seems to work the same as always.

Okay, I now see where they've hidden the Contacts and Calendar sync options, but so far thats all I've found.

Re: iTunes 4.8
There's a new button too. Below the playlist section next to the show artwork button. It says 'show video in full screen' but I don't know exactly how to use it. It doesn't work on the iTMS videos.
EDIT: Friggin Sweet!!!! You can now import video and view it in iTunes. Not sure if it has to be .mov or if others will work too. I just opened the Batman Begins Trailer in itunes and it has a little camera next to the track listing. I hit the new button and it switches to video. Neato.

The only problem is that when I check 'Main Window', nothing happens. It works fine with Full Screen and New Window, but it just plays the audio with main window checked. Hmm...

I guess this is the Quicktime full screen that everyone has been crying for. I'm glad I don't have to pay the $30 for it.

You have to have the window that displays album cover art open. That's where the video plays when you select "Main Window."

Seems highly likely. Especially with the way the PSP is pushing those movies you can get for it. Seems like it's a bit overdue actually, they've been flirting with QT integration for awhile now.

Re: iTunes 4.8
So, what did they take out of this version of iTunes? Ever since the sharing limitation, I've been waiting to install iTunes updates. Although, I have 4.7.1 on my iLife disc, so it's not like I'll lose it.

Re: iTunes 4.8
It's not available in Canada yet? I go to http://www.apple.com/ca/itunes/ and it's still advertising iTunes 4.7. Also the updater tells me there are no updates available today. I hope it's coming soon.

Full screen video is pretty nice. I wish Apple would give QuickTime standard a stupid full screen button. Every other free media player has one.

Re: iTunes 4.8
iTunes seems limited in what videos it cam import (which would seem to lend credibility to the VideoPod hunch)... but, I bet all the people hating on Quicktime lastweek feel kinda dumb
.
What is different about the way it does music videos at the iTMS?

For a while, Apple has been transitioning the QT trailers to start playing in iTunes. For the typical Mac user, there's not reason for QT Player to need fullscreen, if iTunes has it.
It wouldn't hurt Quicktime Player to have it, but full screen is FAR from Quicktime Pro's most useful feature.
iTunes is becoming kinda like the Windows Media Player of Mac OS. Windows Media Player can't do the cool stuff like merging tracks, copy/pasting video/audio, extracting tracks, exporting video, importing video, etc., that Quicktime Player Pro does, and most people don't ever need to touch that stuff.

Re: iTunes 4.8
The article on the Playlist Magazine site indicates that iTunes can only import .mov files, not .avi.
I also realized I don't miss full screen very much. I have a standard-ratio screen, not a widescreen, so for a widescreen format video i can drag the QuickTime Player window to the full width of the screen and have virtually the same size as going fullscreen.

I author a lot of digital media, and I use QT Pro on a weekly basis. Having simple fullscreen options for Quicktime standard would be VERY useful.
Currently, I need to jump though hoops to create fullscreen QT content for clients. And, I'm most certainly not going to use iTunes as a medium for professional demos and presentations. It is not as flexible as the Quicktime player and it is not installed within a number of professional environments.

I didn't download mine from apple's site. I got mine from MacUpdate. VersionTracker lists it too.

Re: iTunes 4.8
all the pro features are active, some app just has to call them. QT player is just disabled from doing it. any app can call qtpro stuff to do it
