Re: iTunes 4.8

Should Apple still call iTunes, iTunes?

Re: iTunes 4.8

Interesting, I wonder what the pricing will be and what the compression will be.  I hope they use 720p H.264.  But, I doubt that since only the higher G4's and the G5's can really play it well.  Also, I don't think they want people getting 100MB+ files off of iTMS.

Re: iTunes 4.8

Well, the Gorillaz videos are free with the single.

These are 480 X 272, MPEG-4, 1645 kbps, no DRM.

Remember Windows users cannot playback H.264 yet.

Re: iTunes 4.8

Looks like they're adding more stuff to work with the new iTunes. Dave Matthews album comes with a digi book and a video. I've seen a few others too.

Ya it looks like Apple was simply trying to find a way to deliver entire albums to users. I just downloaded the latest DMB album and I got all of the same content you would get in the local record store. Album art, the CD, the album booklet, and the making of video.... and all for a few bucks less then a physical CD.

Good deal smile

I didn't download mine from apple's site. I got mine from MacUpdate. VersionTracker lists it too.

Well, are you in Canada and if so, is the store working?

Wow. That's pretty cool. Open Quicktime Player as a dictionary in ScriptEditor.

Is it just me, or would it be a trivial matter to write an applescript which allows you to drop a movie on it and it will play it in QT, full screen?

Re: iTunes 4.8

pdf support has been there since 4.7 because they needed that for the U2 box set which includes pdf files

Re: iTunes 4.8

since iTunes is based on QuickTime, I'd say it does, Apple just didn't enable it.

I find it srange that for movies, info items are still as if they're songs, so instead of the more generic term Item name, tracks names are still referred to by Song name. I'm guessing Apple rushed it.

and if people have files in iTunes they generally want them on their iPod, ergo I still (with no evidence) claim that the videopod will appear at WWDC, though the paris expo is another option...

I play avi's in qt all the time, you need to go the extra step and download the codecs you need.

go to versiontracker and search for 3vix, divx, and ac3 and you should come up with 3 codecs, install them and you should no no trouble. there are others out there but that should cover most of them

cant do apple script (personally) but you can use the new iTunes to play video fullscreen now so....

Yea, it is a breeze.  You can also do it very simply with Automator.  I use one that launch and it takes whatever the front movie is and sends it full screen.  Which has nifty little on screen controls.

Re: iTunes 4.8

You can always do a ZOOM to make a fake fullscreen (especially useful on embedded website content.

SYSPREFS>UNIVERSAL ACCESS>ZOOM

command-option-Plus     (+, or - to zoom out, or command option 8 to toggle on or off)

i have the codecs, its just that itunes ignores avi files and will not import or catalog them.

Look for an invisible file whose name contains QTPluginTemp and over 3 MB. No longer works in Tiger and QT 7.
