any "former smokers" or recent non-smokers around?
Hi y'all
I apparently made it! I decided on Wednesday morning that I was done with smoking (the idea had been lurking around my brain lately, but self-discipline has never been my strongest skill...). Thanks to a friend who found the right words ("don't think about "giving up", or "sacrifice" or "losing" your tobacco habit, you're only "winning back" something"), it has been very easy so far considering I had been smoking between 20 and 40 cigarettes per day since 14 years. I haven't been particularly stressed or nervous, I don't need chewing gums or sweets or anything to keep busy. The only thing that puzzles me is a burning chest sensation. I haven't changed my diet, and even if I am not a "health freak", my diet is based on good quality food, relatively balanced. Yet, I feel like I had eaten only peppermint and mustard, or like I had been running a marathon while smoking.
Is it a normal and temporary side effect?

Clean for well over a month now!! Zyban, baby! w00tw00t!!

Sore chest is normal. your lungs are "waking up." I would consider it a good thing...

Yeah, the chemicals have a paralyzing affect on the lungs. After stopping for a while the cillia (?) start to respond again. Good job to the both of you!

Way to go! I'm getting ready to celebrate 6 years smoke-free after 13 years as a smoker. Zyban worked so ubelieveably great for me - anyone serious about quitting but not able to do it on will-power alone - give it a try. Just wait until you've been smokefree for 6-8 weeks, all of the sudden you can REALLY taste food again. A simple cheeseburger knocked my socks off!!
You guys CAN do it - just persevere through any cravings you get. They get less intense and last shorter as time goes by. Good Luck!

Smoke free for 4 years 8 months and 8 days. I quit cold turkey, sort of. I tried the patch, but it annoyed the hell outta me, so it only lasted a day.
Congrats to the recent quitters.

And to all those that are still smoking, here's a big salute
for helping to pay the tax on our schools that comes from the high tobacco tax imposed by the state; thanks for helping educate our youth! We appreciate it!

Maybe you should take it up, campy. Do your part for your country.
And if you already are, then smoke more.

I found that chewing sunflowers seed does the trick on helping people kick the habit. You need the shelled one to keep ur mouth busy.
Or you could check out the adds on the side ----------> (drug/alcohol rehab, home recovery addiction)

But CD, please don't throw your butts out your car window.
At two packs a day, thats a lot of butts.

I had anyone's extra packs covered - at 30 years old (three years ago) I was a 3 pack a day, and had been for over 5 years.

You do realize that shelled means the shells were removed, right?

Six years five months six days and about 12 hours. Four packs a day at my worst. Thirty-five years.
Hardest thing I ever did! Hardly ever miss it.

Re: any "former smokers" or recent non-smokers around?
I smoked for 10 years and was up to 2 packs a day. I had a girlfriend who didn't smoke and she asked me to quit. I was sick of smoking at that point and had a half a carton left. I threw it in the garbage and never smoked again. That was 15 years ago. There were no quitting patches or gum at that point, it was just will power and a really hot girlfriend.
Many people tried to get me to smoke again, especially during the first couple of weeks. Being the stubborn bastard that I am, it only made me that much more resolved to quit. I dumped the girlfriend about a year later. Turns out she was a controlling bitch. Well she was good for one thing anyways...
...two things really.

i smoke pipe tobacco. it's quite different, but i suppose i get thrown in with everyone else. people frown on 'sitting outside at night for no reason', so a pipe smoking is something to justify being outside. not addictive, i can smoke all week or not smoke all month and never think twice about it. fun stuff.

shut up tito.

Phht, quitting is easy! You know how many times I've quit already!?
GG on the quitting. I'm (unsuccessfully) trying to get my mother to quit. My dad stopped smoking cold-turkey around the time I was born, after having smoked for 15 or so years religiously. Said it was hands down the hardest thing he's ever done.
I must say I picked up smoking a few years ago (I was 15 or 16) for the cool factor, I guess, but never really stuck with it.
Oh, and that burning feeling in your lungs? That's your body healing.

Your body doesn't heal completely, and when you get older, that's when the damage might be felt.( I don't mean you specifically, by the way.)
