Firewire Target disk through a PCI card?

G4 Sawtooth - The on board Firewire quit.  I replaced it with an aftermarket PCI card.  The system profiler sees it.  BUT: I can't access Target disk mode.  I'm told this only works via built-in Firewire.
WORSE: I can no longer use Firewire to network the computer (the Firewire port won't mount).  Is this a PCI card address issue?

Re: Firewire Target disk through a PCI card?

Target Disk mode wont work and some PCI cards will *blowup or disable if you try and create a FW network.

*Lots of smoke and acid smell but not damaging to the machine.

Could try to just replace your board. ebay would have sawtooth boards.
