As a filmmaker, using FCP, every MHz counts when it comes to render times, so this is the set up I would go wth, but if you could eek out the extra $600 or and get the 20" it woudl be a fantastic set up for editing, top notch indeed! but my roommate is a filmmaker also and he gets by with the 17" splendidly, so, you'd be fine with it...
However, It depends on portability. For me, portability is NOT an issue, so I always to Desktop for the power, but if you don need partability then the PowerBook is the Only real option. However, like I said, you'd pay for your portability in render times...
Honestly, you'd love and do just fine with ANY of the setups you configured for that price...

Also as a sales rep for Apple Education, I don't think I would be aloud to say this on the job, but off the job, I's recommend getting your xtra ram from somewhere else like http://www.coastmemory.com , you could save dozens, if not hundreds of $... Might make the diffence between affording the 20" Cinema or not...

Definitely get RAM from someplace else.... I recommend transintl.com... with the $$$$ u save there, you are that much closer to affording a dual 1.42Ghz system...

Like it's been said, if portability is not a priority, you HAVE to go with the dual 1.25. I mean, you do get an extra cpu, higher ram limit and much more expandability.

Re: Darn Apple! Which of these sweet setups should I get?
Buy RAM from somewhere else...save up madd cash, and get the 17" PowerBook and the new 20" Cinema Display! LoL, at least that's what I want to do really badly...in all seriousness though, if you are POSITIVE portability isn't an issue, get the Dual 1.25 or get RAM somewhere else and get the Dual 1.42, if you MAY need the laptop in your future, get it, and then buy a display later on to go with it.
12" G4 PowerBook: 867Mhz/640MB/40GB/Combo/AE
PowerMac G4: Dual 1.25Ghz | 2GB RAM | 80GB | SuperDrive | GeForce 4 Ti 128MB
23" Apple HD Cinema Display + 17" Apple Studio Display
10gig & 15gig iPods
etc.

Don't forget that you have up to 364 days after date of purchase to get AppleCare... so if $$$ is a factor, you can hold off on that...

As cool as a couple electron19blues would be, that's a hell of a lot of desk space to take up. One LaCie and a 17" monitor would be more practical.

Granted, it does require more desk space than the LCD, but you get better color, and 3200 x 1200 max resolution.
Though, I did have an afterthought: Will the Radeon 9000 support both monitors? If not, add a second vid card.

Re: Darn Apple! Which of these sweet setups should I get?
And I think we have a winnner:
Power Mac G4 Dual 1.25GHz w/1MB L3 per proc.
1GB DDR333 SDRAM (PC2700) - 2 DIMMs
80GB Ultra ATA drive
Apple SuperDrive
NVIDIA GeForce4 Titanium w/128MB DDR
Apple Cinema Display (20" flat panel)
$3,315.00
I want the ATI Radeon 9700 Pro w/128MB but it is not yet avalible. Anyone know how soon till it is?

I'd say probably a month or less on the new ATI 9700 card man...and don't tell me you're cancelling your 17" PowerBook order!!! Just get the 17", wait a few months while you save up cash, and buy yourself a 20". Then you'll have the best of both worlds!!!
And about the LaCie, yep, my request was serious, and thank you very much for the link...that's a stunning looking montior, 19", Ap. Grille, under $400...very nice! Just wish they weren't so desk comsuming! Dang CRT's!!!
12" G4 PowerBook: 867Mhz/640MB/40GB/Combo/AE

And I don't think the Radeon 9000 supports dual-monitors, but I see he's changed to go w/ the GF4 Ti, which does

Did you also notice I am getting a Dual 1.25 Ghz PowerMac (yes cancelling my PowerBook unfortunantly) WITH a 20" Apple display? All for $3300. I am so happy. This is so fast and sweet.... I am excited to do some FCP3 on this bad boy. It should get here in 7 days!

Re: Darn Apple! Which of these sweet setups should I get?
From Apple's website
Full support for dual displays
To provide full support for dual displays, all graphics cards feature both ADC and DVI connectors. And all Power Mac G4 systems come with a DVI to VGA adapter, protecting your investment in a VGA monitors, while keeping the ADC connector free for an all-digital LCD display.
So dual 19" CRTs would require an ADC-VGA adapter, but those monitors are well worth the money. I've worked on one at a previous job and when my last days were up I was trying to figure out how the sneak the thing out under my jacket

Ah Larg0, you're gonna want that 17" PowerBook when it comes out man...hehe, but good luck w/ your new system...let us know how it is when it arrives! And did you order the exact configuration you last posted? Or did you config. it differently?
12" G4 PowerBook: 867Mhz/640MB/40GB/Combo/AE

That is exactly what I got. The only thing the PowerBook has that this doesn't is portability. Other then that, this is better in every way and I decided I really wanted power over portability.

Yeah, after all that talk about the 17" PB and now your going to cancel? Oh well, those that ordered a 17" will be happy as they will get theirs just that much quicker.
