Re: Just bought me a Powerbook!
No, not my first mac. I've had a PB Duo 280C, LC630 DOS, PM 5500/225, and my current tower, a B&W 450. the G3 is my first Mac that I can actually use with current software, and I just love it. So, of course, I had to pick up a powerbook. Hopefully, within a year or so, I can get a new one. Congratulations of yours as well!

Re: Just bought me a Powerbook!
What's overcharged? I admit, I paid alot, but it's what I wanted. base price was $749. the 512 ram was $92, and the airport card wa $75. The ram and airport card is cheaper than I could find, so I let them put it in for me. Plus it comes with a warrentee. I also opted for two-day shipping. The laptop bag was only $1 through them with the laptop. My problem was I was going to get either a Pismo or a 500mhz Tibook, for $549. $50 more for the 550mhz model ($600). $50 more for the 600mhz model ($650). $50 more for the 667mhz vga model ($700). And $50 more for the 667mhz dvi model ($750). The 800mhz model was $80 more than the 667dvi, so I said that was enough for me to spend, Sure, they had a 1ghz powerbook for $900, but I don't want a 12" powerbook. Though if you add up the costs, (shipping was $37 for the 2day), to comes out to something like $955, I didn't pay that much.

Yes, a refurb 12" iBook for $799. However, perhaps majeskyb wanted a 15" screen, doesn't like iBooks, etc... And remember that iBook only comes with 256MB of RAM.

Re: Just bought me a Powerbook!
Thanks all. And yes- I don't think I could live with that 12" screen. They have a 1ghz 12" pbook there for $899, but like I said before- I can't stand that screen size or resolution. On the iBook- I'm not too interested in them, at least not right now. From what I've seen, I got the book for average price. And I have a copy of Tiger family pack at home, so the system software version isn't a deal.
Well, shipping was delayed because they had four bad hard drives in a row, but they upgraded my shipping to overnight, and I was told they were throwing in some freebees (don't know what they are though). It ships today, and will (finally) get here tomorrow.
Thanks for the interest and thoughts though. I'll try to get some pics up after it arrives

Re: Just bought me a Powerbook!
Well, I'm a little ticked. They called me today, and said the logic board for it was dead, and they didn't have any replacement boards or even any dvi laptops. The closest thing they had was a 550 Tibook, which I don't want. So, they refunded my money.
Anybody know where I can find comparable powerbooks (15", dvi or newer) online, besides ebay? I found some good deals on iBooks, but I don't care for those.

Re: Just bought me a Powerbook!
Do you have to have a PowerBook? Here's a refub iMac from Apple for about the same price.

[edit] darn, my link doesn't work anymore. Anyway it was a 17in 1.8G iMac G5 at the refurb store

Re: Just bought me a Powerbook!
I think for now I'm going to put the powerbook on hold. I'll probably wait until next year (some extra cash coming my way), and hopefully by then, the new books will be out. Kinda sucks that I didn't get it, but at the same time, now I have that money in case I need it for something else

Re: Just bought me a Powerbook!
majeskyb-
sorry about Wegener putting a halt to your plans. I just got a Ti 550 (See my sig, because I decided to gloat a little over it) with combo drive, 512 MB of ram, 37 gig hd (supposed to be 40), AP... da woiks. I'm a little worried about all the stuff I've heard about the TiBooks, but I've been careful with it. It does have some chipped paint but I've seen worse examples of this malady on the internet.
It's coming to Japan with me this summer. Does anyone have travel tips, etc? I've locked it down pretty tight with password required at startup, open firmware password... but this metallic baby isn't leaving my sight at any time. I love it to death.
