Sleep with no power? Wha!

So, every night before I go to bed, I put my G4 to sleep. Hard drives spin down, the little light throbs, my monitor goes into energy save, etc.

Last night our power went out. I'm not sure how long, but the surge may or may not have totally borked my roommates brand new PC.

I didn't know that the power had been off when I woke up, and I tapped the control key to wake it up. The drives spun up, but no video. My monitor was off. Everything was normal when I turned the monitor on.

How the heck did my G4 stay in sleep with no power going to it. I thought it had to draw a bit of power to keep going.

Can anyone explain this to me?

Re: Sleep with no power? Wha!

I assume it's the same case with PowerBooks where you could sleep the 'book to swap batteries.
minimal power reserve?
very short power outage?
Jobs was in the area and the distortion field kept your Mac safe?

just say a prayer and move on.

Re: Sleep with no power? Wha!

I believe there is a setting in system preferences that lets you choose to have it restart after a power failure. Think it's in the energy saving settings (or wherever it is you set your sleep preferences, I'm not in front of my Mac right now  sad ).

Re: Sleep with no power? Wha!

Yeah, and once I realized that the power did go out, I checked to see if that was on. And it's not.

Even if it was, it wouldn't explain how my computer was asleep, when I have it set to never sleep.

I'll just try to believe Jobsian RDF protected me.
