Lost (in time) and found...

A copy of a post I made here 5/26/01. It's really scary what you find squirreled away on large HDs.

Yup, my voice. Did for an a chain story thread that was going back before the crash wiped out the forum. CannonFodder was appropriate at the time but now that I am a UT God it really wouldn't work. Besides, MadOldDocB pretty much describes me now.

YES! THURSDAY!!

Re: Lost (in time) and found...

Doc you are the fodder I never had! I'm dead serious about coming to Thursday night Frags.

I've been lost in Doom III lately and mostly spent after caring for my very sick bulldog, Booger. Most nights I just wanna hang it up. The poor pooch has developed severe arthritis as a direct result of Lyme Disease and a malarial variant known as bebizia (SP?)

Anyway, I've been practicing up on the East Coast Atari DM server, and ready for it.

Babesiosis

It's not really a variant of malaria, it's an entirely different parasite. But it does infect your red cells similarly to malaria and the signs and symptoms are very similar to malaria. Transmitted by ticks instead of mosquitos. It's endemic in the US in several different areas. I think there is a species that is endemic in Europe too.

Re: Lost (in time) and found...

Thanks, Doc-RobC. I've had trouble looking stuff up on this due to my ignorance of the spelling.

We've had a little luck with injectable glucosomine (Adequan), which seems to be a growing form of treatment in animals, as well as a small dose of prednisone (hoo boy, does that suck), as well as acupuncture. We're trying to lower Booger's pred dose, on the advice of the vet, but he's not taking to it to well. Man, these diseases are EVIL!

Re: Lost (in time) and found...

Hmm, I don't know about dogs, but for humans that would be a very bad way to treat babesiosis. I hope your vet gave your dog the appropriate antibiotic treatment to clear the infection before starting the treatment he's on now.

[edit] here are a couple of articles I found about canine babesiosis
