Memorial weekend

This Monday is the day we honor those that have served and died in our armed forces. It has since evolved to include war verterans that have passed as well. It's a 3 day weekend for most, and marks the beginning of summer. I'd like to go up to the cemetery, but i just don't know if i'll have the time.

Anyone have any plans? I work weekends, so there's no plans here, except that i may be covering for those that have Monday night/Tuesday morn off. I won't know if it was approved until this weekend, though. I hope it is. I can always use the extra spending money.

Re: Memorial weekend

I'll be hosting company for the weekend - family of the SO is traveling up from Iowa. I usually go to the family pond back home and drink a beer in honor of my grandfather, who built the pond and developed the land that it sits on. Miller Genuine Draft was his brew of choice, so I choke one or two down. wink

This is the first MD in a decade I won't be visiting the cemetery. I have belated plans to do so a month from now, but it just doesn't seem the same...

Re: Memorial weekend

Working on my Neverwinter Nights module most of the weekend, going to go see Ep. III again, maybe even Kung Fu Hustle. Gotta lay down a bass part for a guy over at macjams. Hopefully, there's a cookout somewhere in there. It's good to get out every now and then...

Memorial Day is a day of remembrance. A memorial.

Here's a statement from the DOL that explains Labor Day better than i could.

"Labor Day, the first Monday in September, is a creation of the labor movement and is dedicated to the social and economic achievements of American workers. It constitutes a yearly national tribute to the contributions workers have made to the strength, prosperity, and well-being of our country."

Re: Memorial weekend

Sat we are doing laundry/ shopping, and I'm making brownies, or cookies or something for a party on Sunday.
Monday I'm going to spend time remembering my grant grandpa and others who have died for our freedom.  My hats off to all the armed forces past and present.  If it were not for them, I probably wouldn't be free to write on MAF.

Re: Memorial weekend

Work. I wish the people at the job I applied for on campus would get back to me so I can quit this job: they're just deciding between me and another person right now. Of course, about a month and a half ago they said they'd inform me about their decision... hmm (luckily I have a friend who works there who gives me insider information on what's going on tongue)

Me? I'm recovering from minor surgery this weekend (see blog link in sig for gory details). Hopefully, I'll get to see Star Wars sometime in the next few days (There's nothing in it that will make me violently ill to my stomach, is there? If so, I'll need to hold off a few weeks until my gut heals).

Watching the rain fall (if the local meteorologists in the NY metropolitan area are to be believed. Maybe painting the new baby's room if I'm feeling up to it.

Re: Memorial weekend

I've been hired to build a 1/4 scale Miss America P-51 and am going to be finishing assembly this weekend.
He's supplied everything I need to build it and I have been working on it steadily. He bought a $700 radio for it and the engine is way more than it needs, it's gonna be an absolute rocket and will blow mine away.

Maybe I will be able to test fly it by Manday afternoon if the weather is good.

For payment I'm getting 2 weeks in Panama City Beach at the guy's condo in the Commodore.

Stuff for rotary like helping out and marching in their parade or something like that.  I'll know more tonight after the meeting, but yeah, community service.  Most of the seniors at my school are going to Palm Springs to get wasted this weekend, and so I felt compelled to do something worth while; next year I'll be a senior and probably do this again.

Gee, I guess I'm the lucky one that gets to work.  I feel sorry for all of you out having a good time enjoying the long weekend.  You poor souls.....

I'll probably call my dad and say thanks and e-mail my buddy that just got back to Germany after spending time playing in the sand getting shot at. (I know the holiday is more for those that gave the ultimate sacrifice but fortunately I don't have any in my immediate family)
