Step right up! Step right up! Ladies and Gents...
Dutchman Sold Pieces of the Moon
http://news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story2& … moon_sales
AMSTERDAM, Netherlands - For years, Rene Veenema says he made a small fortune selling real estate plots on the moon. Now he's in jail, on Earth.
there's really no need for all of this

We should all buy up our plots of land on the moon now. So that when we have to move there, we will already have a place to live

Re: Step right up! Step right up! Ladies and Gents...
Will my moon lot still be OK?
I want to move my bridge there!
OK, seriously though, why is he in jail? The article makes it appear that he's in jail because he didn't mail out certificates. I'd hope that these buyers realize that all you are actually buying is the certificate because you know full well that no one recognizes ownership of the moon. At least I hope people realize this.
Maybe I give people too much credit.

I think they are shooting for orbit. havent heard any claims about the moon.
dont bother buying land on the moon, mars is where the good land is located. get out your checkbooks.

I sold my plot of land on the moon and opted for Mars...in the year 2050 I'll be living peacefully

Re: Step right up! Step right up! Ladies and Gents...
since when do we "own" the moon at all?
and how did that company get the moon?
this is yet another example of the negative effects of "advancement" of our world

The first one to claim the land and to be able to defend it is the one who owns it.
Now excuse me, but I'm off to buy a plot on Sol. You get way more land for your buck!

I believe somethingawful.com has brought that up, the advantages of sun real estate.

Yeah, I know. I'm not smart enough to make something like that up by myself.

Re: Step right up! Step right up! Ladies and Gents...
Life is imitating art again.
Science fiction writer Robert Heinlein wrote a novelette called The Man Who Sold The Moon in the 1940s. I wonder if that Dutchman read it.
Why did any of those idiots buy themselves a certificate? I could imagine people buying them as a fundraising gag for a charity, but not as a serious purchase. $1600 US is a bit too much money to throw away on a joke.
And there were some big names in that guys sucker list - oops I meant clientele.

Doesn't Time-Warner own the sun? If fact I heard they've copyrighted it. Expect to see high taxes on solar energy in the future. (After all, it's their sun that'll be supplying the "New Power".)

Why wouldn't there be real estate available for sale on the moon? After all, we've sent out a lot of Surveyors.
