Submarine Sandwiches: Where do you get yours?
I live in the Boston area and am a fan of a good sub once in a while. Usually something with chicken in it. Where would I get such a food item? A pizzeria, of course. Other than a pizzeria I don't think I could find a sub near me. On highways there is an occasional D'Angelo. Sometimes I see a Subway.
Apparently, this is not the case everywhere. I understand that sandwich-specefic stores/restaurants are a much more common place to get a sub in some areas. I recently learned this and was surprised. To me, subs and pizza go together. Does this sound crazy to you? Who's crazy here?

Whether you're crazy or not, I can't say. In my town we have a Subway and a Blimpies. I probably eat at Subway more often, but the food at Blimpies is also okay. All we have as far as pizza shops are concerned are the national chains. You can't get a good sandwich from them.
When I feel like driving, however... there is a pizza shop with some good sandwiches about twenty minutes from home.
So, to answer your question... For the most part, I'll go to a sub-specific shop, with the occasional side trip to Gramboli's pizza.

Quizno's makes the best subs I have ever tasted, and when you're eating them, so much of the stuff falls onto your plate that it's almost the equivalent of a second course.

Luckily for me, they have 3 within just a few miles of here.

Re: Submarine Sandwiches: Where do you get yours?
There's a Subway just a short walk from my condo. I've gotten hooked on their Southwest Turkey and Bacon sub. I should just figure out how to make it myself, and buy the ingredients from Safeway. Maybe I'll do that. Until then, I'm accumulating a lot of Sub Club stamps.
I've tried Blimpie. Pretty good, but Subway is just more convenient.
Hey!!! Was that Pithy? Got a twenty?

I've been dying to try Quizno's, but I haven't yet. I usually get subs at d'angelos. But they are over-priced. Oh well.
When I'm back in PA, however, I get them at Wawa exclusively. mmmm... Wawa.

Subway is about the only choice, unless going out of town, then theres Quizno's and Blimpie, and Shlotzky's (decent sadwiches not just subs).
But usualy Subway works ok for me...

Whatcha gotta do is head down Harvard St. thru Allston, across Comm and up the hill into Brookline. At the 2nd or 3rd light after Comm there's a little pizza joint on the left called Ozzies. That's where I get my grindahs. Be sure to get it toasted.
I'd like to try a Quiznos but they're all outside the city.

Schlotzsky's is also much better than Subway, but I didn't list them because this topic's about sub sandwiches.

I get mine at the Village. It's a little pizzeria type place across the street from my house. It's about a 15 second walk. They make a mean chicken cutlet, just ask thekingalrock.

Come to think of it, I'm gonna go get myself a chicken cutlet sub right now. I'm gonna get it with lettuce, tomatos, unions, and mayo; just in case you wanted to know

What about those people who eat Hoagies, Grinders & Heros instead of Subs? This is blatant regionalism. Legislation is needed immediately to stop this blatant violation of human rights.
Me, I prefer Jerry's Subs for my "Differently lengthed sandwich type edibles".

When I'm back home, I take a 15 minute drive to Libertyville to get a sub at Cousin's subs; they're really good. Subway is fine, too.
Also great is Togo's in Marquette, MI.

I will never drive by a Quizno's let alone eat there again. Not only was it nasty, it made me puke my guts out.
I like Mr. Goodcents actually. But if I can't get to one of those I get a Turkey sub on Honey Oat at Subway. The HoneyMustard there is the bomb.
As faras sammiches go...Jimmy John's. Only St.Louisans and Columbians and KCs really know about that place. YUM

I agree, I only eat Hero's. That's what we eat in NYC. OH, wait. I live in Buffalo now so I guess I do eat 'subs'. Actually, I don't eat them at all here, not into them unless they're "Hero's".

Re: Submarine Sandwiches: Where do you get yours?
There were about 14 Subways in Duluth last time I checked. They're very popular up here. There are also a variety of smaller chains, plus local sub shops and pizza shops that also sell subs. I guess I usually go to Subway, but subs are so easy to make at home that going out for them doesn't happen too often.

Re: Submarine Sandwiches: Where do you get yours?
I ate my own poo once.
No, I actually never did... but I've had Subway a couple times, and I think the poo would taste better. I don't see how they can lie so blatantly about being fresh, seeing as everything is just there in bins, looking like it's old enough for Moses to have considered using it for a sub as a threat against Pharaoh. Their steak and cheese, ugh. Not only do they use poor quality cheese, but their meat is pre-cooked, pre-mixed with peppers (I didn't ask for a steak and cheese with peppers, I asked for a steak and cheese! argh!), and they stick that in the microwave to heat it up. Just about the only thing they've got there is the bread, it seems, and I wasn't blown away... it was just bland, indistinct bread.
D'Angelos knows how to make a steak and cheese. I think I've tried a couple other subs there too, and they were pretty good, but mostly I get steak and cheeses. For other subs, I go to pizza joints. If I'm about to die of hunger, and my friends insist on going to Subway, and they're driving, so I don't have a choice anyway, and I'm too tired to care about much of anything, then I'll sometimes go to Subway... but even that takes some convincing. Otherwise, I'd rather just use Subway's toilet as a way of catching my next meal.
If you want a real quick 'n' go bread-and-stuff meal, you're better off with falafel or shewarma anyway.

Blimpie is evil. Subway is just a little less evil. Quizno's is -evil (whatever that is). It's GOOD!
