Re: Submarine Sandwiches: Where do you get yours?
I just got home from work and was sitting here eating a Subway sub when i stumbled over this topic. There's a little strip mall near me that features a Subway, a Blimpies, and a recently opened Quiznos. What I'd really like is convenient food that isn't a sub, actually.
That said, I usually go for Subway. Quiznos has better quality ingredients, but you gotta go for their nasty sauces, because without them the sandwich dries up going through the oven. You can't just ask for one with mayo or it's going to be too dry to eat.
The Blimpies I've never eaten at because the people who work there are so scummy looking I don't want to eat anything they touched.
What I really want is a muffaletta, but I can't find anyplace in Maryland that makes them.

Re: Submarine Sandwiches: Where do you get yours?
I live in the Boston area and am a fan of a good sub once in a while. Usually something with chicken in it. Where would I get such a food item? A pizzeria, of course. Other than a pizzeria I don't think I could find a sub near me. On highways there is an occasional D'Angelo. Sometimes I see a Subway.
Apparently, this is not the case everywhere. I understand that sandwich-specefic stores/restaurants are a much more common place to get a sub in some areas. I recently learned this and was surprised. To me, subs and pizza go together. Does this sound crazy to you? Who's crazy here?
hey man, if you ever happen to be rolling through the elitist suburbanite hellhole that is sudbury anytime you should check out a place called Sudbury Pizza on route 20, nr to blockbuster...we have a d'angelo's, but everyone knows that sud p's is the place for a decently priced and overly filling sub (avoid their pizza)...you cant go wrong with a small cheese burger sub at $2.50...i would say there are few other places you can get a filling meal and a drink for under $3 anywhere nearby
at d'angelo $2.50 would buy you pretty much nothing, although i have been know to grab a nice chicken ceasar (sp?) wrap from d'angelos in the past
have you been to the penang malasian resturant in harvahd square (close to the garage)? lunch is 7 bucks for more food than i could eat...great pad thai

Re: Submarine Sandwiches: Where do you get yours?
No, the best way to really get a good sub is to go to the center of historic Lexington. After a while of searching, you'll find one place, and that'll be pricey, yuppy, and with mediocre food.
Then you go to D'Angelo's and start appreciating the good sub

I find that usually your independent or mom and pop stores have the best stuff. For chain stores I like Quizno's and Subway-but a real good sandwich comes from Penn Station. Oh and Jersey Mikes! I may go get a sub now!

Re: Submarine Sandwiches: Where do you get yours?
There's a place in the Twin Cities that has subs (they call them hoagies, even though 99% of Minnesotans do not) and pizza. There are probably close to 20 stores in the area, but I don't think they have intentions to branch out nationwide. It's not their style.
Anyway... Davanni's. The pizza isn't wood-fired but amazingly close, it's always fresh, the sandwiches are to-die-for. I loathe Subway, had Quiznos once and thought it was so-so. I'm totally spoiled by my Davanni's. Garlic butter makes all the difference.

To anyone looking for a killer non-hoagie, non-grinder, non-sub sandwich;
go to Geoff's in Providence. They've got some of the best concoctiions between bread I've ever experienced. If, that is, you're in Providence.

Your friend from last year? Did you upgrade since then or something?
I'm sure he did if he was in Providence, it's good stuff, oh, and they have a big barrel of free dill pickles too. ![]()

I took a year off from school last year, spent a year working full time. I met this guy at the program I was working at, but we haven't seen each other since the thing ended, and we've only talked a couple times.

Re: Submarine Sandwiches: Where do you get yours?
Subway is OK, but I much prefer Togo's. Mmmm...Togo's. A number 8 (roast beef and turkey) or their Pastrami Ruben is really good. Or their turkey and bacon or...or.....
The one near me burned down, so now I'm Togo's-less. whaa!

Re: Submarine Sandwiches: Where do you get yours?
Subway is the only real sub-making place around here. Their subs are adequate, bot nothing particularly great. My favourites are steak & cheese with southwest sauce, turkey and bacon with the same, meatball with or without bacon, and chicken fillet with hot chilli and bacon & cheese.
There are a few yuppie places that make a good baguette, but I don't think that's quite the same thing.
Not only do they use poor quality cheese, but their meat is pre-cooked, pre-mixed with peppers
Pre-mixed with peppers??
::claps hands to cheeks, gasps::
Heaven forbid!!
If you want a real quick 'n' go bread-and-stuff meal, you're better off with falafel or shewarma anyway.
I'm very particular on my carbohydrates. More particularly, I'm very specific on my carbohydrate cravings. Unleavened bread is just not the same as regular (and vice versa, if that's how I'm swinging).

Uhhh.... why don't you just eat one with no meat on it?

Re: Submarine Sandwiches: Where do you get yours?
Quizno's makes the best subs I have ever tasted, and when you're eating them, so much of the stuff falls onto your plate that it's almost the equivalent of a second course.
In my opinion that's a drawback, not a benefit. A sandwich is supposed to be stuff between bread. If the stuff falls out, it's no longer between bread. The quality of the sandwich has therefore diminshed.

As faras sammiches go...Jimmy John's. Only St.Louisans and Columbians and KCs really know about that place. YUM
Jimmy John's are all over her in Michigan as well. I like Togo's out in CA, the afformentioned #8 rocks. Here in Michigan there is a good place called Jersey Giant, but the best place is Mancino's. Homemade bread, and absolutely loaded inside, 18" of gastrointestinal bliss.

I will never drive by a Quizno's let alone eat there again. Not only was it nasty, it made me puke my guts out.
Nobody can just not like a food on the internet... It always, invariably involves vomit and a heaping shovelful of melodrama.

Re: Submarine Sandwiches: Where do you get yours?
Once, I went to Quiznos and got an actual human hand instead of roast beef. I was hospitalized for weeks, and had to get all of my organs transplated because they failed. So, I don't go there anymore.
Oh, and a friend of mine went to Subway and got mad cow disease and his brain leaked out his ears. It was messy. So we don't go there anymore either.

Well, think about it. First of all, they're putting in peppers when I don't want them. That's not cool. Even worse, though, it's pre made! Steak-and-cheese meat shouldn't be pre-anything, other than pre-shredded. D'Angelos cooks it there in front of your eyes... that's how it should be done.
I wish I were a Steak and Cheese God, so I could smite Subway.
