Who's really free?
Iranians are free to dance in the street in protest, burning American flags and effigies of Bush.
What would happen to an American if he burned an American flag and effigy in front of the White House in protest?
It would not be tolerated.
Of course, those Iranians probably can't protest their own government in such a manner in their streets either.....

We are currently in a pretty oppresive time for public protests but I think the pendulum will swing back in a few years.
There are signs the NeoCons are already falling out a favour with their extreme, comformist nationalism.

Flag burning (ours) has been ruled as protected free speech. You may get crap from private individuals but the law can't touch you as long as you have a permit or do it on your own property.

The flag is the symbol of our country, it's strength, it's perseverance, an all the sacrifice the military and non military have given to keep this country what it is...
The American flag, to me is more important than any religion in the world... for the idea behind the flag, is the reason why people can choose their religion, and to practice it freely, and not be punished for it. The freedom of religion is only protected by the flag they desecrate when they practice their freedom of speech.

It seems he's using sacred in more of a metaphorical or symbolic sense... It seems kinda crazy to me to actually want to honor a flag so much though.

You advocated holding the flag higher than religion. If I were a real Christian, that would be blasphemy.
The flag is a piece of cloth that symbolizes a country. I can understand having a respect for the flag, and no wanting to see it dishonored, but I can't understand holding to such a high degree as you seem to want to.
What is the difference between Vista and OSX?
