Re: Emo Discussions
Thats funny now, every major discussion board on the net now has some sort of emo thread. Its refreshing here because there are no flame wars about what emo "really is".

Re: Emo Discussions
My friend told me the other day that there's a Tooth and Nail/Solid State promotion going on right now, and if you buy a CD from either label you get a "Tooth & Nail vs. Solid State: The Videos" DVD for free. Well, we figured out that Best Buy has to put this little promotional DVD on display in the store somewhere. And because it is supposed to be free, they made it a list price of $0.01 to be bought separately. So I got it today for one penny. Yay! Go look for it at Best Buy!

Yes, Rocketown is in Nashville. It also shares the same facility with the Sixth Avenue skatepark which you can see video and photos of at http://www.rcktwn.com/

Re: Emo Discussions
Yeah, it's in the middle of downtown Nashville. I know soooooo many people who went to the video shooting. I myself did not go, since I was not in town. It made me so sad. It's okay though. I think the UnderOath, Chariot, As Cities Burn, and Mewithoutyou show in two weeks will make up for it.
Rocketown is mostly awesome because they don't serve beer there. It's a respectable venue that is always all ages, and gets major attention form major bands that come to Nashville. The staff there is knowledgeable enough to know the difference between dancing and a fight, so they lets us have at it in the pits. Even though it is a Christian Values place, they certainly don't force it down your throat in any way. Even local hardcore bands like Gorilla Warfare are allowed to play there, despite their violent lyrics and such. I've actually had some awesome throw-down's at Rocketown. Again, the staff was knowledgeable enough to realize that there was no ill-intent.
Rocketown really is a cool place. I think the only place I like more is the newest venue in town called The Anchor. It's an old converted church that sits on a hill overlooking the Nashville skyline. It's so new and unknown that when Halifax, Scary Kids Scaring Kids, Haste The Day, and A Static Lullaby played there recently, there were only like 60 kids there. It was cool though, we all went nuts and there was a lot of room to dance in. Also, being able to look across the stage at the bands and out the window into the Nashville skyline was really cool. I wish I had taken pictures.
Yeah.

Re: Emo Discussions
AHHH Worst day of my life!! It started snowing at 2:00 yesterday, and we had 3 inches in about 2 hours, and then the entire city of cincinnati basically shut down because of snow, so my friends and I didn't even bother trying to drive downtown in a blizzard. WE MISSED THE BIGGEST SHOW OF THE YEAR!! I wonder if Norma Jean and As I lay Dying even played. Maybe we can get refunds...

Re: Emo Discussions
Oh and just a reminder to anyone who is in the area.... Haste The Day is officially breaking up because the vocalist is getting married, and they are coming back home for their very last show, December 29th, at Knights of Columbus in Indianapolis, IN. I'm going to be out of town, but I recommend that everyone come see Haste The Day one last time, even if they aren't your favorites.

Re: Emo Discussions
So lets see, the last show I was at...
what was it again?
Oh yeah...
UNDEROATH AND THE CHARIOT AND MEWITHOUTYOU AND AS CITIES BURN
good god, it was smurfing awesome. UnderOath stole the show. They played some of their songs from their new album to be released this summer. The new stuff is absolutely incredible. Mewithoutyou rocked, though I wasn't paying too much attention. The Singer seemed like a really cool guy. He had a lot of stage presence. The Chariot killed. Their entire set was sickingly hardcore. They kept drifting in and out of various songs rather then playing a bunch of them whole. Not to mention that they played one of the songs off of their new album, which rocked my face off. Josh was up their, as usual, throwing the mike stand up in the air, using it as a pick axe on the stage, and jumping into the crowd.
I wasn't their for As Cities Burn, which is quite smurfy, since I really wanted to see them. But alas, it was certainly worth my $12. I came home, went to sleep, and could barely move the next day. The mosh pit was brutal during both The Chariot and UnderOath. It was awesome.

Re: Emo Discussions
That is quite a show. Aaron Weiss (mewithoutYou) has SUCH a stage presence from what some friends of mine have said.
On a related note, the Haste The Day show in Indianapolis is now sold out, with 50 lucky people to get tickets at the door if they camp out the night before or something hehe.
And I may be going to see Copeland for a 3rd time, up in Columbus, playing with the Starting Line, Gatsby's American Dream (worth seeing again), and this new Militia Group band called Cartel.
P.S. I just went and bought a Rilo Kiley CD, she's pretty good, like a second-rate female Connor Oberst, which is still phenomenal.

Re: Emo Discussions
I actually don't think Cartel is too bad. I got a free Militia Group sampler from my local CD whorehouse. I was really grabbing it for the Rufio song on it, but I ended up enjoying some of the other bands (like cartel) as well.
Yeah, I knew it was going to be crazy when Weiss went up to the mike with 4 red flowers in his hand. By the second song, he was dancing so hard that the flowers had flown out of his hand, and were not seen ever again. It was really cool to watch him preform. Of course, Weiss' presence was WAYYYYY different then Scogain's presence, which involved throwing the mic stand around instead of the mic, and pretending that the stand was a pick axe during part of the set. Josh Scogain is crazy.

That show on the 29th is just the vocalist's last show. They have already got a new one set up, and they have set up shows with him all the way through April. I suppose it might lead to a sound change, like UnderOath, but they are not breaking up.

Oh, really? Hah not as bad as I was told by some friends. When a vocalist leaves though, it's unpredictable what will happen. Look at Norma Jean!
