Phaser 7750 troubleshooting
Anybody around here have experience with the Xerox Phaser 7750, or similar machines?
We've got a new one in the office, and it is improperly scaling documents up when printing. I can't find any troubleshooting documentation regarding this issue.
Thanks

Re: Phaser 7750 troubleshooting
We've got a 7750GX... a couple of months old. The most common cause of the printer scaling output is for the paper size on the printer to be incorrectly set.
When you insert paper into tray 1 (manual-feed) the printer's LCD will ask you to confirm the paper size and type. Make sure they are correct.
With trays 2-5, the paper size is set by the adjustable guides that hold the paper in-place. Make sure that the guides are all snug to the paper size you are using.
The correct media size needs to be set before you send the job to the printer. If you send a job and then change the media size while the printer's processing, it won't work.
Hope that helps.

I checked and rechecked the paper size settings. Our old Tektronix 780 had that issue of scaling output to paper size in the event of incorrect settings, but this is very different - my output is being scaled 150-200% or more, and running most of the image area off the page.

The 7750 looks pretty good, but I never had a chance to compare its output to other printers nor control samples. (Our manager bought the thing without doing any comparisons, nor checking the specs - he didn't even know what paper sizes the machine was capable of taking until it was set up and the sales guy was doing an instructional demo in our office. This of course is just a small sample of the retarded management practices I endure at my job, but I digress.)

What media tray/sizes are scaling up? Is it everything or just some outputs? Consistant or sporadic? All applications/documents?

Re: Phaser 7750 troubleshooting
I am trying to print an 8.5x11 document with full bleeds and crops in the middle of an 11x17 sheet. I am using InDesign 2. A coworker had the same problem printing from photoshop 7, but it magically disappeared. We just ran a couple of tests, and printing 8.5x11 with crops from pshop7 worked, ID2 did not.
Right now I'm thinking it may be a postscript issue. I will be installing CS later this week - perhaps the issue will resolve itself.
(btw, it's CS, not CS2 I'm installing - after ordering CS when it was new, we finally received our delivery, and CS2 was already out - that is how slow the supply system is where I work)

It turns out that printing from IDCS seems to be mostly problem-free (without extensive testing); I did notice that the printer is reducing documents about 98-99%.

Re: Phaser 7750 troubleshooting
We always get fan failure message after taking 4-5 A3 Colour printouts, and even after switching the power off the printer do not works, we need to switch it off for 4-5 hours and then after taking 4-5 A3 Colour printouts, the fan fails again. We are facing this same problem, Xerox local office in Riyadh, came to see the problem & the guy said that we are not getting AC Power, though we get AC Power 220 V, the Xerox representative says we require 225 Volts, and I suspect this logic as we are using the printer for last 3 years, we never had any problem but for the last 6 weeks we are having serious problems. Kindly help.

I was hoping you were having trouble with the Stun setting.

Does the same thing happen when you use different paper trays for the same size paper? What if you cut a custom size a bit smaller than A3 but bigger than A4 - would you still get the error? What about ledger size? Have you tried feeding A4 landscape and portrait? Will that create the error? If you run a volume of A4 and it's printing two A4s at one time (the same as printing one A3), does that create the error? Finding out what does and doesn't create the error will help greatly.
The voltage suggestion does sound stupid. Frankly, my experience with tech help in Riyadh was not good, and I wouldn't expect much from most tech help there. They'll tell you anything, no matter how ludicrous, or worse, shift the blame for the problem onto the user, rather than admitting they don't know what's wrong or they don't know how to fix it.

If your fan stops working, replace the fan?

Re: Phaser 7750 troubleshooting
1. Yes the same thing happens when we put A4 papers.
2. As regards to replace the fans, fan functions properly till we get 4-5 printouts & then it fails.
I guess this machine has 8 fans! Do we need to replace all eight fans?

Just the one that stops working after a few minutes.
That is the cheapest method, assuming the printer is out of warranty - replace the parts that are broken, then if they are still broken, replace the parts that they are plugged into.
