Or it will be really really good because everyone wants to get their hands on a real mac before the switch to x86.

I hope Apple goes out of business at this point. Seriously! This new hardware better be something unbelievable, I think they'll need it to save themselves.

However, I say that as an Apple loyalist, not as generic consumer who wants an apple because it's a trendy computer.

I'll really flip if OSX is released for the generic PC.

Have you tried Linux lately?  XP? 

No, seriously.  Wherever you're used to running OS X, get yourself a box (even if it's just to borrow it) and experience downgrading to one of those systems.

I tried installing Linux on one of my home systems, I couldn't stand it - it was too close to Windows, had none of the elegance of Mac OS.  Lasted all of about an hour.

I ran linux almost exclusively before I bought my first PowerMac. Which was maybe 4 years ago now. The nice thing about Linux is it can be changed to your personal preference.

Don't like your window manager? Get another one. Don't like the bash prompt? Change it, or change your shell all together.

The reason I enjoy the Mac so much is I get the powerful, stable, and efficient back end without the hassle. Linux can be tedious at times, especially when setting up new hardware.

At this point I think I'd rather put the effort into it. I feel pretty betrayed. When I was in H.S. and we used Mac's exclusively I hated them. Their closed standards, high cost, and I thought OS 9 and below were garbage. And the switch from 68K to PPC? I thought it was absolutely absurd, a company forcing people to change architecture, making a lot of their current software titles obsolete in a wink.

I pretty much ate my words when I bought a Mac. I loved it, although I still think OS 9 and below are pretty much junk. I never thought the architecture would happen again, well I guess I was wrong.

Ok, so now what Apple.. great, make your stuff run on Intel. But then what about Intel's lack of 64-bit processors? They've been slow to roll out, and if I remember correctly they won't be backward compatible either. Will we see another shift under Intel's rule? I doubt it, with the slow phase in, but it's a possibility.

Err..  Didn't Apple switch the processor manufacturer, not the whole computer shebang?

Compared to Dell, all of Apple's components will be top notch (as always) and it's not like Jon Ives suddenly died, or ceased to exist.  It's still Apple, kids.  They didn't change their name to something silly like Gateway or Dell did they?

It's all in the OS. Even if it's OS X running on an abacus, or rocks in the sand, I'd still use it over Windows anyday.

This puts Macs on par with 95% or whatever with the rest of The Market Share, and it's going to give Microsoft bit of a scare methinks. And thats a GOOD thing!

I for one welcome our new Intel Overlords. IBM have been playing hacky sack long enough.

I just don't want to be stuck with a PowerPC Mac in 2-3yrs, and the 64bit thing is bit of a mystery at the moment, but I think it's in the works.

Yeah, the minority that hacks OS X onto other x86 hardware probably don't buy Windows anyway.

Hey Guys,

You gotta remember that Intel is an innocent chip chip manufacture, that PC company's choose to use. IBM actually makes computers! And you had no problem with that!
I was pretty shook up by apple's move but it'll work out and our current computers will not become obsolete for another 3 years.
Don't worry if you just purchased a new PB or whateva, it'll stay pretty cool for a while.
