Re: So What will happen to OS9
OK, after trying sheepshaver out, I discovered that it is buggy with 8.6 and a 7200 ROM.
It will take some work before it is stable enough to work.

Or there's Mac-on-Mac
That could run under Rosetta.

Re: So What will happen to OS9
I used to loathe OS X and love Classic. My, how the tables have turned and how glad I am that they did.

Re: So What will happen to OS9
I have a couple of games that will only run with System 7 (Out Of This World, MechWarrior, Lunicus).
I may have to drop my Performa 6300 back to 7 so I can play them, esp MechWarrior, which I never finished.
Otherwise, my flatbed scanner, Unreal, and Deus Ex are my only reasons for using Classic.
Aw, he's no fun, he fell right over.

Nothing works properly in classic, it may as well not even exist.

I would love to know who is still actually using it on a daily regular basis. Seriously. I won't miss that Classic preference pane one bit.

Re: So What will happen to OS9
I would really like there to be a classic 2.0, where if there is a USB Floppy drive, it shows up as a floppy under Classic if one is inserted. Perhaps that could be a good place to start if someone wanted to make Classic support better.

Classic sucks and anyone who still uses it all the time sucks.
I think that's the moral of the story here.

Re: So What will happen to OS9
Its been what.. like 5 years since OS X was released? If you're still using software thats not available for OS X, maybe you should look for an alternative.

Re: So What will happen to OS9
Well, I still have to use Classic for my email account. Our exchange server software at work is so old that Entourage for OS X won't work with it. Not even Mail or Address book. Only outlook works with it. Thank god this summer they are upgrading it. All I'll need to use is Safari now to access it. And then I can ditch OS 9.

I agree. All I use Classic for anymore is The Incredible Machine. Maybe The Oregon Trail, on occasion.

Re: So What will happen to OS9
How many people even use Classic RIGHT NOW? OS X has been out for 5 years now and all the major worthwhile apps have been ported to OS X and many new ones were written for OS X from the ground up. Even the apps that were never ported to OS X has plenty of OS X equivlents around.
The transition to Intel won't be "COMPLETED" until 2007 according to Apple, that's still 2 years away. By then, it would've been a total of 7 years since OS X was released. Does anyone even run apps that are 7 years old!?

That's mainly why I use Classic. The only reason why someone would port the old games is if more than one someone wanted it. not to mention they would have to make a UI that is 256-color compatible.
