Re: Batman Begins (tomorrow at midnight)
Honestly Batman Begins was one of the best movies I have seen in years cause it had depth. Not just for a comic book movie but for any type of movie. He made you really believe this was possible perhaps not plausible but possible. I didn't care for a second that I didn't see full costume Batman for over a hour because the character building was that good. This Holmes girls did a good job to in my mind. Especially the scene with her and a younger Bruce in a car parked outside of Falcones restaurant. Also they way the so subtlety worked in a origin for two-face was excellent they made it so he can be used later if they so choose. very fine film making.

Just think, after another couple of decades, the Batman series can grow long in the tooth just like 007!!

Awesome, awesome movie. It pales even Tim Burton's effort.

Re: Batman Begins (tomorrow at midnight)
Burton focused too much about Joker when the movie's called Batman.

Re: Batman Begins (tomorrow at midnight)
Burton made a decent movie, but it wasn't Batman. He got the character completely wrong and missed out on many of the subtle nuances that really make Batman who he is. Plus he screwed with the story line too much. Joker doesn't need to have been the one to have killed Thomas and Martha Wayne it works far better as a random act of violence on the streets. Batman never kills, and he offed the Joker in Burton's film. The Joker was also made too "sexy" for lack of a better word. This guy is a psychotic serial killer with over a thousand murders to his name; he's not the guy you want to romanticize. The audience shouldn't sympathize with him, they should hate him. And you sure as hell don't give him more screen time than Batman himself.
Again, decent movies, but they weren't Batman. Burton never understood what made Batmon who he was, and it showed. Nolan on the other hand understands it perfectly, and that's what makes Batman Begins far superior to any of the movies that have come before it. the only one that can stand as an equal is Mask of the Phantasm (pathetic before this that the only other movie to truly understand the character was animated).

I agree with Chris FOM. Burton made good movies, but this one was definitely the better batman movie.

Re: Batman Begins (tomorrow at midnight)
The one nice thing I liked is how sturdy the "Batmobile" was in this movie, the scene in one of the previous movies where the "Batplane" is shooting machinegun fire at the Joker, misses all the shots, and then to top it off the plane gets shot out of the sky by a revolver made me think Batman should have bought a A-10 :shrug

Re: Batman Begins (tomorrow at midnight)
Saw it Saturday night...loved it. Finally, a solid rendering of the Dark Knight. Bruce Wayne becoming Batman in this film brings so much realism. What I hated most about the sequels to Burton's Batman (aside from the pathetic storylines) were the incredible ability's average people obtained by simply puting on a rubber costume
Burton's Batman was good, but never really captured the comic book character, and there was never any explanation for his amazing fighting skills or futuristic tech.
If you like a good storyline with solid character depth, great acting, and excellent villians, do yourself a favor and see this film.

Getting Chris Nolan to direct was the best thing they could have done to revitalize the franchise. Superb from beginning to end. Dense story, yet easy to follow, and it sets up the sequel(s) quite fine (even with that cheeky little scene at the end

Re: Batman Begins (tomorrow at midnight)
I liked the movie a great deal and thought it was the best-most accurate telling of Batman to date.
I did wish the score to the film had a clearer more obvious "theme". James Newton Howards stuff was good but Hanz Zimmer was just rehashing the same stuff he's been using for years. It's gotten real old and makes anything he does sound like a jerry bruckheimer film.
I wasn't wild about the staging of the fight scenes. I did not want to see "Matrix" style ballet fighting or anything like that. I did want to see the fighting though. I understand what he was trying but it didn't work. It was too muddled.
I would have loved some of the nightmares from the scarecrows gas shown more vividly. Crane's view of Batman when gassed was great! Been nice to see Falcone's view of the Scarecrow as some nightmarish thing as well.
But these are minor quibles. I loved Burton's movies but almost view them like the "Elseworlds" titles from DC. Essentially alternate takes on popular DC characters.
But this is Batman as he should be. No Addam West, no Nippled batsuits, No Shumacher! I still can't believe DC let him get away with camping up the series and playing up the gay thing. Well, that's what happens when you let the lawyers and bean counters decide what to do in order to sell the most happy meals.
Spider Man's Success I think kicked DC/ Warners in the ass to do it right. As long as this film is successful, which it looks to be, then they should stay on target.

No Harvey Dent in the movie = no Two Face. What he meant probably was how Dent can be worked in for the next movie because

What I really loved was how the action and fight scenes were done. Very up close shots where you couldn't really tell bodies and limbs apart, which made it that much more visceral and impactful. Very well done.
God I hate this. It would have been just as chaotic, but easier to watch if they had just pulled the camera back 6 ft. and let the audience see what was happening. It's nauseating when it's shaky-cam ultra-zoom.
That is, however, my only complaint. I couldn't believe this movie, and I thought it was going to be crap ever since I layed eyes on the Batmobile tank (which I now LOVE).
And Gary Oldman as Sgt. Gordon? BRILLIANT!

Well I'm glad I convinced you, but stop reading about it so you don't get any of the other actors spoiled for you. Just seeing the cast alone was worth the price of admission (I didn't know anything about the cast before I saw it).
