how do you react to gnaa's "leaked" goatse boot-iso, and further, to the brilliant business model constructed by those who conjectured such a model upon approaching the manifestated torrent? i have a long-winded reaction; however i'd like to hear your responses first; avoiding personal instillment.

I'm moving this to F^3 because it doesn't belong in CB. Also posting to a few admins & mods so they are aware of your query. You might have gotten faster result if you linked to what you were talking about and posted in Forum Forum Forum or if goatse is actually involved submitted a report.

despite your later post, i appreciate your commentary. any further thoughts? most notably, any thoughts on the business models projected by bloggers and rumor-sites?

It really only stems from one blog. That stuff gets passed around enough to get into the zeitgiest as a "story".
Though interesting speculation, I doubt we'll ever know if that is the "truth". A company can't really own up to allowing or encoraging piracy as it weakens their legal ability to protect their IP.
Apple has done some amazing things with regards to their products and the pulse of the public. Who else could turn an existing product (mp3 player) into a cultrual icon? Or have a failure (cube) find it's way into MOMA? Or be guaranteed to have any new product copied by other companies within weeks of launch?
So it wouldn't surprise me if this was something they would try. But it would appear to be risky and far from the accepted logic.
My official opinion? Maybe.
Though the gnaa thing would make people think twice and could hurt that plan if it was indeed a plan.

I have no idea what the heck you just said but I agree with it .... I think. What is the Goatse boot-iso you speak of?

Everybody has been looking for a x86 iso on torrents. Someone posted a bogus one that is about the right size, but appearently when you run it all it does is display a goatse image. People are spending hours downloading dirty picture. A group online has claimed responsibility for it. Google: gnna (offensive site)
