Re: WTC proposals narrowed down...
Personally I can't stand any of them. I got used to the Old ones after awhile so a new design will always look a little out of place to me.
That said, the new designs remind me of a quote from Walt Disney; "That feller was more interested in designing a monument to himself than something for the people."
Creeps me out that the last time i was in the towers was a week before 9-11 after five years of ignoring them.

Re: WTC proposals narrowed down...
Larry Silverstein purports to throw a monkey wrench into this whole charade. He's rejected the design proposals.
When it gets down to brass tacks, we have got to deal realistically with the business end of this. The successful design, according to Silverstein, who holds the 99-year lease on the property and its structures, must replace every square foot of leasable area.
Neither Libeskind's nor THINK's proposals succeed in this area.

Re: WTC proposals narrowed down...
The THINK design has the upbeams of light at night - which I love. But the framework is heavy and baffling. It does look like a plane is hitting it! Libeskind's building sparkles, but it is like most monolithic urban architecture with lots of glass, and the angled shape seems to be a constant reminder of something askew. I mean it's like the bldg. took a hit again and is off balance. Nevertheless, it has gardens in the design. Gardens are a symbol of life, and as a tree grows in Brooklyn, this site needs the beauty and silence that urban gardens bring. I wandered in Central Park lost in Nature and Fall leaves and migratory birds after the tragedy and found it very peaceful, affording some needed reflection.
Studio Daniel Libeskind says this about their towering gardens design:
URL Life Victorious
pulled quote:
"The sky will be home again to a towering spire of 1776 feet high, the "Gardens of the World". Why gardens? Because gardens are a constant affirmation of life. A skyscraper rises above its predecessors, reasserting the pre-eminence of freedom and beauty, restoring the spiritual peak to the city, creating an icon that speaks of our vitality in the face of danger and our optimism in the aftermath of tragedy.
Life Victorious."
