Boycott HP
HP anounced layoffs of 15,000+ employees then days later hired a CIO for $15+ million with a $3 million sign-on bonus. Don't feed the corporate greed machine called HP. Many Mac users buy their Printers and other peripherals- I urge you to consider your future purchases more carefully.

Re: Boycott HP
If we boycotted every company that pulled that crap there'd be nothing to buy. But that is pretty stupid.

Re: Boycott HP
I just got one of their printers free with my pb. Crap.
HP isn't great, I wouldn't use their printer if it wasn't free*.
Boycott a corporate greed machine? Well, I'd rather boycott Microsoft

Re: Boycott HP
Other than because HP is evil, why does my HP all in one printer take a year to start printing?
Is it because of USB 1.1? I doubt it since my other EPSON one was perfectly fine. No I didn't buy this HP, it was given.
Is it because their software sucks? They're software IS evil, but maybe it's not that crappy. I mean... come on. My complaint is that it has 50 apps to do 5 things. So annoying. And you can't use Apple's Printer Setup Utility, or the Image Capture like I could with the EPSON. That's nother evil because HP's versions of those are annoying.
Anyway. That's as far as I'll go with my rant.
Does anyone know why it takes so long for the printer to start printing? And is there any way to get the Scan button to launch HP's Scan thing, and not the useless tiny "preview" window?
Thank you for your co-operation.

Re: Boycott HP
Executive pay is WAY out of whack across the economy. HP isn't really an exceptional case.
The main problem is that it has very little correlation to company performance. I don't see why shareholders are putting up with it. Something needs to be done when one person takes up 40% of a company's payroll and he's not even leading the company very well.

Agree with those that say HP's software is crap. I hate it, too.
Disagree with those that say boycott microsoft. As far as i know, microsoft is very fair towards it's employees. very social.
EDIT: deleted something i wasn't very sure of :-)

Re: Boycott HP
Personally, it makes me mad haering news like this. Laying off scores of middle class, low income group of people who have families to support just for the skae of 'business restructuring' or 'cost-cutting measures' while at the same time hiring one already rich person is the sort of news that makes my blood boil.
But this kind is news is so common. Which of us have never heard of an executive who drives a posh company car while all the lower employees have holiday to benefit cuts for the reason of saving costs?
I was never really into HP but I had high admiration for their printers. I bought one years ago only to had it break down like 5 months later on. Now happilly using a Canon printer.
You sucks HP!!!

Re: Boycott HP
Here's some irony:
HP lays off production line employees, but hires a glorified accountant.
Most of the posts here indicate that they feel this situation sucks, but what sucks even worse are HP printers.
Perhaps the key to revenue enhancement for HP is build a printer that satisfies customers' needs so they don't buy someone else's product, instead of hiring someone whose expertise is cooking books and crunching numbers so less looks like more in the eyes of shareholders.
Genius, ain't I?

Apple computers suck. Boycott them, or better still, sign this petition what I made:

Heck, by the end of the week we'll scare them into laying of 30,000 jobs (not 30,000 Steve Jobs though, that would be cruel).

My cheap $79 HP printer prints wirelessly through my Airport Extreme Base perfectly. It's also one of the best printers I've ever owned. I'll never buy another unreliable, ink guzzling Epson, that's for sure!

Looks like you better start boycotting Kodak now also. Up to 10,000 jobs cut.

Re: Boycott HP
I have had MANY HP laser printers and they have been great. I bought my mom a new HP Inkjet for Christmas and it rocks.
Apparently, HP feels they have 15,000 too many employees for the amount of money they are making. Boycotting HP makes no sense. If you are REALLY concerned about HP employees then you should buy, buy, buy. Then, maybe, they will be able to keep the employees.
It is quite possible that HP has been paying 15,000 too many employees for a long time. I know my company was being dragged into the ground by an excessive number of employees. We would have lasted maybe another year and then would have closed the doors, and EVERYONE would have been out of a job. We downsized (rightsized?) and now we are financially sound. Some of the people still have jobs.
A $15 million for a CEO is only $1,000 for each of the 15,000 employees. Not exactly enough to keep them employed. It seems like a lot for a CEO but I honestly don't know what it's worth to head a company of that size.
