Re: Boycott HP

So to draw a parallel, we should try and raise sweatshop wages by purchasing their goods at Wal-Mart?

I prefer name brand sweatshop items.

I guess you could draw a parallel if that was a parallel...

Looks like you better start boycotting Kodak now also. Up to 10,000 jobs cut.

Wow, all these job cuts (several large ones in my region as well) and you would think the economy wasn't doing so well.  But they say it is so I guess it is. shrug

Working for the government even my job isn't all that safe. Of course they don't call them layoffs they call them RIF's(Reduction in Force) but they will actually try to find you another job within the goverment if one chooses.

Re: Boycott HP

This is just the news I've been looking for. My employer 'streamlined' to the tune of 1000 jobs worldwide last year, the swines. I think therefore it's only right that I boycott work tomorrow.

And for the record, in my experience HP make very solid and reliable printers, and they would be top of my list when it comes to making future purchases. The business world sucks, and pretty much all companies are the same when it comes down to the choice between a rosy balance sheet or maintaining the workforce. I want decent peripherals at the end of the day; there are already too many considerations when it comes to choosing new kit, and I don't want to have to consider a company's work ethic in addition, no matter how much it blows.

HP anounced layoffs of 15,000+ employees then days later hired a CIO for $15+ million with a $3 million sign-on bonus.  Don't feed the corporate greed machine called HP.  Many Mac users buy their Printers and other peripherals- I urge you to consider your future purchases more carefully.

I boycotted HP a LONG time ago when they started selling JUNK  "calculators" which cannot compare to their older machines in the 70's, 80's and bit into the 90's. Sure, update the machines, but keep the same quality of yersteryear....yeah, right!!!

Here's some irony:
HP lays off production line employees, but hires a glorified accountant.

Most of the posts here indicate that they feel this situation sucks, but what sucks even worse are HP printers.

Perhaps the key to revenue enhancement for HP is build a printer that satisfies customers' needs so they don't buy someone else's product, instead of hiring someone whose expertise is cooking books and crunching numbers so less looks like more in the eyes of shareholders.

Genius, ain't I? http://homepage.mac.com/oatmeal/MAF/maxes/bucktooth.gif

HP doesn't build items anymore. You would need a time machine to buy something that HP actually built. Today they just rebadge Chinese made equipment.
