Well we're almost 2yrs old...

On August 4th the Recon Division will be 2 years old. But because of rather low turn out in these forums I figured to just make a thread about it now along with a state of the division thing then if ppl happen to check back as time goes they will see this and some of the plans in the works.

So with that said, Happy B-day Recon!

The state of the Recon Division 2005:

In the past I perfered to do this in IRC with the members so we could get good feedback on matters and then play some games after taking care of business. But this time i'm not going to bother with hunting ppl down or trying to get ppl to show so I don't care right now if the public views this.

First of all theres no mystery that the Division is not on a high point right now. Infact as new games have come out, Ghost Recon gaming itself has seemed to be on the decline. But we've been suffering for awhile from many problems and after being here since the beginning I can tell one of the biggest problems we have is the lack of a dedicated server on gameranger. We had a server at one time being ran by Books but since it wasn't on GameRanger, we couldn't attract new players. Also having our active members level being many times just a few ppl has not helped.

I have tried getting us active in tournaments from the SOG ones to even the BattleLeague and other than the early SOG tourneys, we barely get anyone showing for them even after they sign up for it. All the inhouse tourney ideas I had running also had to be scrapped because we either just couldn't get enough actives to show or we had no server to run things on.

So i've been trying to keep things going for those that are left but being on limited resources here, I can't do everything. Because of it I know we have lost a few ppl. And because of things I have been trying to gain some extra income so I could buy a DSL line capable of hosting 12+ ppl which I could dedicate on GameRanger for us and for the SOG ppl. Originally I was hoping to have this going back in June but things fell thru so now i'm looking at really pinching some pennies and trying to switch over to DSL in the next month or so.

Anyways, if I can get this DSL then we will have an official server or servers on gameranger. I do not know about line conditions but this would be a 3000/768 line that i'm looking at and is the fastest offered for the price on DSLextreme. But this could all be too little, too late so time will tell.

With the Clan mostly moving towards WoW, we can't hope for any help from the rest. This Division is very much on it's own. But despite my limited resources, i'd hate to see things completely die off. So if people want to join, thats awesome, this place will be here. If ppl think they can do better elsewhere, they are free to go too. And if ppl would like to help make things better around here, thats always welcome. I have stressed from the beginning that this is your division, I can't keep it up without you all. And I will keep things going as long as I can so you can have a place for you all to gather but if you don't speak up on ideas or concerns then you're dooming things for yourself and possibly others. I want to hear what you have to say, good or bad. I am not a Lord Vader who will kill you for questioning me or bringing a recommendation.

Infact i've wanted to promote people more for the work they have done. Books became an LT for all he did. Then when he left I gave an LT spot to Nimoy for his help. I just don't know if I can get you all OF access big_smile. All the posts in the officers club are WoW related nowdays and its useless to bounce ideas off many of them cause they won't reply back. Then even if they do it takes them weeks. The officers club is not the place it once was lol. We are practically our own seperate clan now. So if anyone else gets promoted around here, its probably better to discuss matters thru iChat wink.

Alright, with that said, heres to another year cheers. We've accomplished more in the past than some of the other divisions who have much larger membership. But still may this year be a sight for sore eyes vs the last, and may Ghost Recon 3 actually be good roll. Also a special thanks goes to Vir2L and those with SOG. Always glad to frag with you guys! Thanks for your help as well.

Ghost Recon still remains on my "favorite games" list. I really wish we could get some more members though... I might be up for a game later tonight though, I'll get you a shout on AIM in a little bit.

Re: Well we're almost 2yrs old...

Havent been a lot of great servers anymore so if we are on its in the evenings on one of the SOG servers or I usually host for Nimoy and Carb over my 56k, not joking eek. Carb has actually been working on some programming tournament thing so lately its only been me and Nimoy, so you are welcome to join us, Recon has real good netcode which is the only way i'm able to host 2 ppl on my line. Sometimes I see Mediocre Sau on but hes not around that often anymore.

When I host I tend to run IT and FB but if you don't have those I could host up with original Recon. I got lots of serversides and I don't mind. Gives me a chance to use the Groza again.

Best way to contact us is over ichat or AIM. When I check into Ranger, sometimes I just pop in to scout out the servers then leave if nothing looks good, specially if Nimoy or Carb aren't online. Usually that would be in the afternoons when all the servers being ran are in Europe cause none of the US ppl are home yet from work or whatever. Why evenings are better to find us on.

Yeah Sputnicky, we aren't really on that much. Every few days or so we get on late at night, but it's rare that we play two nights in a row.

Tazz, if you hook up with us on AIM sometime before a game, we should be able to set you up with an IP to join the server with.

With the changed state of affairs, I could see, possibly, branching into some other games now and then. I don't have GR, but do have broadband. GR, ET... no promises or timetable tho. I'm terribly backlogged in meat life.

Re: Well we're almost 2yrs old...

Yeah thats what happened to our original member base lol. Day after joining they all vanished into the terrible real life big_smile.

But it happens. If you pick up Recon that be cool. We'll run some games with ya. Its can be a pretty fun/tense game when things get real good. Probably would be a good idea to try and pick up the PC Gold Edition for cheap if you can. Then you can have a copy of Island Thunder for Mac. Its easier that way. All it takes is running a lil patch over the IT mod folder. Then theres converting the audio files to aiff format. Sadly the pre converted files aren't downloadable anymore. Tho, I reakon I could upload em somewhere. Still planning on getting DSL this month if finances work out.
