Gmail issues

I have been using gmail since May and have had no issues but recently I have not been receiving emails that I know were sent by several different people. The providers are different, the people are different and the times they were sent are different. I even sent myself several test emails and have yet to receive them. I cleared my cache, I've made sure POP is disabled and checked that all settings are correct. Still, no emails from several people. The strange thing is, I emailed Google and received a response almost immediately to that same email address so it is receiving some emails. Of course their email was not helpful at all. roll

Any suggestions as to my next step?

Re: Gmail issues

Send emails to both your gmail and a non gmail account and  post the headers of the email you don't receive at gmail here.

There is probably something in the header that they are filtering.

Re: Gmail issues

i got this about 15 minutes ago.

"Hello,

Thanks for your report. We are aware of this problem, and our engineers are working diligently to find a solution.

We apologize for any inconvenience this issue may have caused.

Sincerely,

The Gmail Team"

So it is a problem with gmail not with anything I'm doing. I sure wish they'd contact us when there are issues.
At any rate, it is a beta version. shrug

BTW, I got all the emails that were sent. It just took about 3 hours.

That is good in that they aren't filtering them.

They probably just had a mail que back up and their mail servers are overworked. Could be a form of DOS.

EDIT: that's DOS not DNS. That's what I get for post on two hours of sleep smile

there isn't anything good about this.

i have a few ebay auctions about to end in a couple days.  if people are sending questions, i cant answer them and might lose an auction.

Re: Gmail issues

If it's a problem don't use a free email account.

Re: Gmail issues

So in your opinions, what are the best e-mail accounts out there? Paid and free?

Paid:
Your own server colocated in a multiprovider backbone connected DC.

Free:
Best is a relative term.

Re: Gmail issues

I have noticed that gMail messages can take quite a while to appear, especially if they contain attatchments.

Nice.

Aaanyway...

Light Speed is right. Best is a relative term. I operate my own mail server and I enjoy the control it gives me. I like having quick access to logs, being able to modify the configs easily, etc. but this is obviously not for everyone.

From a technical standpoint, I would have to say GMail is the best, but they have been having serious reliability problems (expect this to change when it comes out of beta, whenever that happens). As far as a compromise of reliability and features useful to most, I would have to suggest yahoo, if you can tolerate their web site.

Avoid hotmail.

And at that point are they planning to charge for it?

PS, I use gmail because I never have to delete emails. It helps me track conversations better and allows me to go back and reference emails when necessary. Find me another email provider that does that in my city and I'll gladly pay for it.

Re: Gmail issues

Just get your own domain and host it on a cheep host.
Use pop and keep your mail on your local machine.

Your mail space will only be limited by your HD size.

Keep this domain forever and you will never need to change your email address.

You can also then have multiple email addresses like one for friends and one for when you sign up places that you think might spam you.

If you do this make sure you get on a host that isn't blacklisted through SORBS or Spamhaus.

Take control of your email life!

I doubt Google will ever charge for Gmail. They make a bit of revenue off of it from the adwords and also just keeping people on google web space.
