Questions for an new ISP

I have been with the same ISP for something like ten years now.  It is locally owned, in fact I went to college with one of owner's brother, and I've never had a complaint -- until recently.

For one thing it is a dial-up connection, but since I live on a farm, I have come to terms with that.  Recently it has taken me three or four tries to connect and that is very annoying.

A company called Clearwire has come to town.  It offers wireless broadband using cell phone frequencies.  And I can get it in the country.

Since I've never changed ISPs before, I don't know what questions I should ask.  The most obvious is, "What if I hate it?"  but I could use some help.

What kind of questions should I ask a potential new ISP -- especially one with such new technology?

Re: Questions for an new ISP

the main question is: do they require a 1  year contract? That answers the what if i hate it question.

Re: Questions for an new ISP

Just an aside, the disconnect problem is almost certainly not the fault of your current ISP. Most likely a line issue, either on your end or the telco's end. Or possibly bad hardware on your end.

Might want to ask what the contention ratios are like.

Re: Questions for an new ISP

Clearwire is coming out here too, and is supposed to be ready this fall.  Has anyone here used it?  I'm really interested in it.
