Yes it was, considering the situation. I don't like the way it was handled either. But, it seems you're still making incorrect assumptions to suit your agenda:

XYZ wrote:

What we have here is a moderator who was way out of line and has recently resorted to deleting posts in order to have the last petty personal attack post.

And then you go one better and resort to complete fabrication:

I was labeled a software pirate erroneously by Scott who was applauded by benighted for his personal attacks

I applauded scott for having the patience to write a measured response to your complaints, something I didn't have the patience to do at the time. And I said as much later in that thread, which you either did not see, chose to ignore or simply not accept.

And then when the thread was locked you went back and edited every one of your posts to remove the content. Pretty piss-poor behaviour, really.

Let me repeat, for clarity: I agree with you that the handling of the eWorld thread leaves something to be desired. You want Alien punished? Fine, we'll be discussing it behind closed doors.

What do you want?

You know, when are we going to see the "Banned XYZ Ronald Reagan" thread?  I'm not trying to tell the mods to do something (don't get me wrong), but IMO this is getting ridiculous.

Actually, I do have a serious question for XYZ: Why haven't you started a blog and left here?  I mean, it would give you the control that you seem to be lacking on these boards.  You can freely delete comments left by others.  In all seriousness, why are you putting up with "continued injustice"?

Nothing in that eWorld topic justifies Alien's personal attacks/trolling.

1. I wasn't trolling.
2. In your opinion, nothing in that topic warranted my calling you a whiney bitch. I beg to differ. Discuss.

He admitted that there's nothing in the topic that caused him to call me a "whiney bitch" and a troll.

I did nothing of the sort. Learn to read.

Take off the blinders. When I have a complaint, it's not necessarily because there's some flaw in my character. Often, my complaints are perfectly legitimate, as they are concerning Alien.

Your complaints are legit, because they concern me> That's rich, to say the least.

Let's look, for instance, at Alien's "his comments were off-topic" justification for deleting the posts that came after his last personal attack in the topic.

Weren't they? Yes, they were.

Number of posts about eWorld in the eWorld topic by Alien: 0

Liar, liar, pants on fire!

What we have here is a moderator who was way out of line and has recently resorted to deleting posts in order to have the last petty personal attack post.

If I'd wanted the last word on it, I'd have removed the thread you started just to whine about it. I would also have removed this one. I only removed the posts from the eWorld topic, because they were off-topic, and an attempt by you to start a dicussion that belongs in here, in there.

Yes, plenty of moderators troll me. A few years ago, Jehannum, after trolling me, said "I just like to piss XYZ off". He pointed out later that he wasn't a moderator at the time, so his comment doesn't relate to his moderation. But, it's a fact that I get trolled and it's not my fault.

Boo-smurfing-hoo. I am not Jehannum, in case you hadn't noticed.

Re: Disappearing posts

Why don't we just cut the crap and end this?

Seriously, this is being WAY overdrawn by both parties. I understand how when people's pride is hurt, they want to act against the person and be told that they are right by others. HOWEVER, neither of you is willing to meet at a "middle ground".

I don't know either of you too well, mainly because I'm mostly a lurker, but it seems that Alien's a pretty cool dude, and XYZ is all right too.

Alien, maybe you shouldn't have jumped right to the 'whiney bitch' comment. Unfortunately, you can't take that back, but at least you didn't delete what you said and you stand by your word. HOWEVER, you should be sensible enough to know that XYZ isn't gonna drop it, so maybe you should. A one-sided conversation doesn't go too far.

XYZ, Alien may have been out of line, but these aren't your forums; you don't make the rules, you don't appoint the mods. I'm not saying that these are "Alien's Forums", but understand that because you are a member, you are ONLY a member. You're not the Godfather. What was done is done. I'm not saying you should accept what happened, but I am saying that maybe you should drop the issue.

You two keep bickering back and forth and it isn't really getting anyone anywhere. And it's making both of you look like dicks. Why don't you email each other, or through a third party, instead of repeatedly getting into arguments. It's doing no one any good.

/me gets off soap box and grabs a Sierra Mist.

Chill out, kids.

I think that ice is right.  I have read the thread and I se no clear winner in this argument.  Although I would have to say that Aliens comment was a bit out of character and knee jerk for this forum.  I saw nothing wrong or out of the ordinary in what XYZ posted in that thread.  Oh, btw, I have been reprimanded for saying things alot less offensive than Alien's post.  I'm sure, though, that somebody in the mod squad has had a word with him.  Definitely not something worthy of stripping his "powers" though.

Re: Disappearing posts

I think you kids are forgetting that XYZ is the one who keeps bringing this up. The XYZ:Alien post ratio is like 3:1. If you're saying "Alien should just not respond to XYZ's two threads and multiple posts about the topic," that's pretty silly. Eventually he has to address it, or he'll appear to be ducking out. If XYZ has an issue, he should email Alien, and Alien can respond. If he's going to kick the ant hill in public, he's going to get stung in public.

Hopefully, Alien will be the "better man" and turn the other cheek. Sometimes things can be solved without confrontations.

I concur. I do miss the PM feature, but emails should work just as effectively.

-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-

Both parties have some good points... they just need to merge together the correct points and forget about the flippant ones. Ego, miscommunication, and self-pride are the main problems in this situation.

But he (Alien) is defending a case for abusive behavior.  That, to me is the most upsetting part.  If he  (Alien) has a problem with XYZ, he should e-mail him and tell him rather than calling him a whiney bitch in public view.  Oh, and you earn alot of respect for calling us "kids".  I think that the majority of people responding to this small problem have carried a greater degree of maturity than those who have been defending it.

Re: Disappearing posts

Before I respond, Bren, let me establish that you seem lucid and mature, so understand that I am respectfully disagreeing.

I defend Alien because I know him quite well, and I know that he's a very straight shooter. XYZ, on the other hand, is a "problem member." We get numerous complaints about him, and have had to put out tons of fires surrounding him. Despite that, we don't have much of a reason to actually punish him for anything, as his only crime is having a tireless and loquacious persecution complex. (Even people who try to agree with him get called homophobes, inexplicably.)

Thanks to this unique cocktail, I don't think Alien's actions were at all abusive. Either he was calling XYZ a whiny bitch as a member-to-member, in which case we've talked to him in private and there's no rule that says a member must apologize to another member after an infraction, or he called him a whiny bitch as a mod-to-member, in which case it was a minor case of lashing out in frustration in the only way we can, since he's a thorn that we just can't pull.

You can consider this immature or irresponsible if you want, but as in every case, you're only seeing one side of the situation.

brendave wrote:

I do what I think is fair, right, or funny, and if someone chooses to respect it, wonderful; if not, I really don't care much. In this case, the term was used casually and wasn't at all intended to sound condescending. I apologize if it was taken as such.

Re: Disappearing posts

Well, if you get numerous complaints about XYZ, then it could mean (this is a could) that he's doing some major rules violations.  Then, again, whatever happened to the rules of the MAF?  I can't find them anymore...

Maybe, just maybe, there's some context to consider. I'm sure calling someone a bitch out of the blue warrants a different response than calling someone a bitch who has a long history of acting like one.

Probably not. Does that mean I don't have the right?

Are you related to him?

No.

I called you a bitch in french and you got very offended.  In fact, you got an administrator involved.

That is an incorrect assumption. I didn't even know what "salope" meant until reading this post trying to figure out when you called me a bitch in french. I had just figured it was some sort of term of endearment like "chief" or "buddy" and passed on. Bee got involved because he wanted to. I haven't had a single conversation about you or our argument to anyone else on these forums.

The way you continue to spew hypocrisy in your posts is amazing

And your inexplicable vitriol towards me is a surprise, as I can't recall our ever having any interaction, good or bad, before the XYZ issue. You need to chill out, Habs, and discuss this more rationally.
