WolfET on Powerbook
Hey everyone i was just talking to zwei and silver in your Macaddict server for Enemy Territory about my Powerbook. I have:
Powerbook G4 12" 1.33ghz, 768mb DDR RAM, 60GB, 64mb. GeForce Go5200,
And ET runs like crap! It's really upsetting seeing as my old Pentium 3 crapbox runs ET pretty well with a 64mb. video card, and my new powerbook can't run it well at all. I've used the FPS counter in your server and find that i usually get around 20-25FPS which is unplayable. It spikes way lower and way higher, but it stays around 20ish. I'm running ET at 800x600 with everything set to low. Anybody else have this problem? If anyone can help that would be much appreciated. Thanks!

Yes more ram should help and possibly a new graphics card thats higher than 64mb like 128 or 256.

Re: WolfET on Powerbook
Well, unfortunately on all laptops except for high end Alienwares, graphic cards are soldered to the motherboard and are completely not user serviceable.

Re: WolfET on Powerbook
yea basically the only thing you can do is to up the ram and you might be able to steal a config from MA|Silver because he seems to runs ET off a 733 mhz g4 just fine with some tweaks

Re: WolfET on Powerbook
When you play I recommend that you set all of your graphics to lowest. (Using a resolution of 1024x768) and work your way up after you are happy with what you are getting.
Also ..do these commands in the console (enter console in the game by hitting ~) ..then type these exactly as they are below. Some are more important than others (i.e. hunkmegs, wolfparticles, atmosphericeffects are probably the most important)
/set com_hunkmegs 512
/set com_zonemegs 32
/set cg_wolfparticles 0
/set cg_atmosphericEffects 0
/set cg_fastSolids 1
/set cg_shadows 0
/set cg_marktime 0
/set cg_brasstime 0
/set cg_coronas 0
/set cg_coronafardist 0
/set r_picmip 3
/set r_detailtextures 0
/set r_stencilbits 0
/set r_simplemipmaps 1
/set r_subdivisions 999
/set r_fastsky 1
/set r_drawsun 0
/set r_dynamiclight 0
/set s_khz 11
some of these settings may already be at the correct number once you set the graphics to "low" in the game ...just making sure they get changed. Hunkmegs is how much RAM is allocated to the game. I think the default is 56MB ...bumping that setting up alone may increase performance significantly.
If you do all of this, the game will look like crap, but it will run quite well on your PowerBook. All that matters is that you can see the people to shoot them!
Good luck!

Re: WolfET on Powerbook
Try what's listed above for sure. I've since abandoned playing on my PB that is IDENTICLE to yours in every way. I have the 12 inch 1.33 with 768 RAM. I tweaked it to run at a nice 43 fps fairly consistantly. Its just a matter of scripting as you can't do it all from the in game menu. And don't drop the res. It actually runs better at the screen native. Good luck.

PS Solution 2. Build a gaming comp (As I did). For about $500 (assuming you have some old parts like a case, and old hds etc) you can build a great gaming comp.
