Things dumb people buy

What are some dumb products you absolutely can't believe people buy?  I came across this little gem in the Reader's Digest humor section:

I bought a liquid-crystal sensor to test my kids' bath temperature.  The instructions told me to dip the card in the water.  A green glow and the word "okay" meant the water was just right.

And there was a final precaution: "Always check with your hand before placing child in the tub."

-Karen Johnson, Shawnee, Kansas

Why the heck would anyone spend money on a device to tell you if your kids' bath water is too hot?!  "Wow!  This water seems really hot!  It almost burns my skin!  I should put my kids in and see what happens!" or "Wow!  This water is really cold and uncomfortable!  I wonder if my baby would enjoy this?  I sure wish I could figure it out.  If only there was a way to know."  I mean, come on!

I think I'm in the wrong business.

I normally work in the TV dept. at Best Buy selling TVs, and I had to go to Computers one time, and I was surprised people were actually buying Microsoft Office for $149 to go with their $350 computers.

What is the difference between Vista and OSX?
- Microsoft employees are excited about OSX.

Re: Things dumb people buy

My boss runs a big energy medicine/homeopathy company.
I see people buy stupid crap everyday. And a few times a year there are big international conferences and lots of really stupid people with lots of money buy lots of really really stupid crap.

My favorite is the magnet crystal that you wear around your neck, it projects a 3 foot magnetic field around your body to block out germs, viruses and "negative energy".
Oh  and the EMF reducing stickers you put on your mobile phone. roll

Thanks for the clarification.  I had just gotten back from the nights "activities" when I posted.    I wasn't really thinking too clearly when I logged in.

Re: Things dumb people buy

Are we talking about things dumb people buy or dumb things people buy?

If it's things dumb people buy:
- The National Enquirer (or any other tabloid at the checkout aisle).
- 1-900 psychic services
- Extended warranties on anything costing less than, say, $75
- Half a paycheck worth of lottery tickets
- "How to pick up women" books
- Any NASCAR licensed product

If it's dumb things people buy:
- Pet rocks
- Tamagatchi
- Collectible Card Games (cardboard crack, yo)
- 4" long sculpted/painted fingernails (eeeww!)
- tobacco products
- Microsoft products
- (my gosh, this list could go on and on...)

I'm thinking "Wi-Fi Spray" would fit in both categories. wink

Re: Things dumb people buy

I've always thought that people who live in big cities and buy big dogs are pretty stupid.  I'm talking about people like the guy I saw in Minneapolis who had an Irish Wolf Hound.  Dumb.

Yep, the sad fact is that most people who get any type of dog are not willing to take the time needed to properly care for them.
