It may just be, but a lot of that seemed tongue-in-cheek-ish.

Curtis decided he didn't like iPods last year after encountering a group of students at his college who sat in the cafeteria listening to their iPods without speaking. "When they would talk, it was about iPods," he said. "It really [ticked] me off."
Sounds like someone can't make any friends. Boo Hoo.

Hmm. Make a name for yourself by thrashing the latest and greatest thing, huh? It only works if you do it well.
This isn't even very good.
I just spent several days in NYC. I couldn't go more than a minute without seeing an iPod, and more frequently there were three, four or five in view at any given time; there was one subway car I rode in that had a full dozen in there. Something tells me that Apple has NOTHING to fear from small time poo-pooers like this person.

If, in the future, the writer or any of you would like to dethrone the iPod, you will have to complete this list:
1. Find yourself some guns. Lots of guns.
2. Head down to your friendly neighborhood 7-11. Ask Ahab the Arab if Moose is in. If he is, resume to the back, if not, go back outside.
3. If Moose is there, get the keys for the freezer and grab the piglet!
4. If Moose is not there, put on the tap dancing shoes and kick the smurf out of the potato chip aisle until Moose returns.
5. Be sure to put an atomic fireball into the piglet's mouth and baptize it in the 32 oz. Slurpee. DO NOT, I repeat, DO NOT baptize the piglet in the BIG GULP CUP! It MUST be the 32 oz. cup!
6. After the baptism, slit the piglet open and remove the SEVEN KEYS.
7. Throw the key that looks like a penis to Ahab the Arab and continue to the docks with the other six keys. When you arrive at the docks, there should be a hermaphrodite with a flock of seagull's haircut that answers to the name "Nemo".
8. Ask Nemo about "the tattoo", and alas, he will show the little AOL guy on his belly! Ask him to make the little guy run. Give him the purple key in exchange.
9. If he gets the little guy "running" fast enough, you'll be able to see a code, kill Nemo and etch this code where you see it.
10. Head back home and go to your command line. Type in "Alice Saw A Bear" and you'll be prompted for your code. Insert the one you have etched on Nemo's dead carcass.
11. There's no step 11! There's no step 11!

I had an idiot call me a conformist for using an ipod, while they had a cheapo cd player. Surrrre.... I'm a conformist for using a device that works perfectly with my mac, a platform I've stuck with since 1994.

"I like getting up and picking out five CDs that I want to take to work with me," the self-described "pretty big music fan" said. "I don't need to have 2,000 songs with me all day, every day."
Must not be smart enough to load those 5 cd's to a mp3 player.
Jack Curtis, an 18-year-old college student in Nottingham, England, so loathes iPods that he's built a Web site, www.anti-ipod.co.uk, to display his vitriol for the devices that he claims are brainwashing tools. "I'm not part of a cult," Curtis said of his refusal to buy an iPod.
While Curtis claims are questionable at best, his aversion to iPods, he said, were prompted by his belief that there are better digital players on the market. The iPod's success is purely a product of good marketing, not a superior product, he said
Damn Apple and their sneaky not so superior product!

The rebel image -- Apple has shunned the creation of software that would makes computers compatible with Microsoft's Windows applications --
This is the only part I have problems with.
Personally, I dislike the iPod part of Apple, now that it's so big. Flat out, I like having a superior product that isn't mainstream.

So you only like better products when no one else recognizes them as being better products? That's twisted, man.

Instead of the adjectives "cool" and "graceful" that are frequently heard when describing an Apple product, these Web postings snarl slurs such as "I hate iPods, I really really hate them," and "Rise against this cult!"
Ha ha - they're great retort is "... uh... I hate 'em?".

My favourite quote:
"I like getting up and picking out five CDs that I want to take to work with me," the self-described "pretty big music fan" said. "I don't need to have 2,000 songs with me all day, every day."
Wow. Imagine that.
What do I prefer? That's a otugh one lessee....
My choices are
1. Pick 5 physical CD's to take with me on the train/bus/whatever, adding bulk and the extra harassment of having to actually replace each CD in my portable CD player, or my car's CD player
or
2. For the same bulk and weight of carrying 5 CDs, I can have access to all (or most) of my CDs and the only extra harrassment is pushing the "play" button.
decisions, decisions......

Re: Nasty anti-iPod article, nastier illustration...
I'm just impressed that there were so many words written about it; some people don't think iPods (or similar) are worth the cash at the moment. I agree, I don't need one and they just aren't cheap enough for me, yet... But that doesn't warrant an article.
