Re: Nasty anti-iPod article, nastier illustration...
Curtis said he bought a comparable iRiver digital music player with 20 gigabytes of memory, for much cheaper, about $180 on eBay. (An iPod with 20 gigabytes of memory starts at $299).
hmm, comparing the price of an mp3 player on eBay to the full retail price of an iPod. It would have made more of a point to compare the retail prices of both. Doesn't he realize that eBay has iPods too? I'm not saying they go for as low as $180 for 20 GB, but they aren't $299. And if you don't need 20 GB, go to eBay to find one with 10 or 15 or get a mini.

I have to agree. Upon visiting the website mentioned in the "article," it was quite apparent that this was truly in jest. If you don't agree with me, take a look at the "Anti-iPod Day Celebrations" directory at the website here. If that isn't a joke, then you tell me...

Re: Nasty anti-iPod article, nastier illustration...
It's funny how Apple bashers so often resort to calling Steve Jobs an idiot, or pronouncing his name phonetically (burn?), or calling Mac and iPod users losers. Or calling Apple a cult. Instead of calling people names, why not write an article? Oh wait, someone did. Actually a lot of someones did. And the only ones that achieved any merit? Those that stuck to the facts: some people don't like iPods, they are fairly pricey, and originally they only worked with Macs.
Of course when they only worked with Macs they were criticized strongly. But when they introduced iTunes for Windows, they were accused of selling out, in some cases by the same people who criticized them of only working with Apple hardware. Am I seeing a pattern here?

Yup. For some people its fun to hate the successful, regardless of how foolish it makes them appear to the rest of us.

Re: Nasty anti-iPod article, nastier illustration...
I read the article the day it was published and didn't think much about it. Have seen much worse. For example, the articles that say the iPod battery lasts two or four hours. And, then there was the freelance writer who claimed that her iPods kept breaking. She wasn't bright enough to figure out how to do a reset. Furthermore, most people are going to dismiss the ihateipods kid as a rather silly teen. His site wasn't even working a few days ago, appeared he hadn't paid up for the domain.

So, the guy was upset that the iPods caused his friends to talk monotonously about iPods. Sounds like his friends suck, not the device.
Also - who cares if you don't want 1.7 million songs with you! This is in every anti-iPod article ever, and completely misses the whole reason the damn thing is popular.

Re: Nasty anti-iPod article, nastier illustration...
It's about being elitist - the very thing Mac users are accused of often being. The iPod is popular, so therefore it's no longer cool. Much easier to bash the "uneducated masses" for purchasing one. Not sure how it's inferior though. Intuitive interface - not many iPod competitors can say that. Easy integration with a single application (instead of using one to rip, another to download, another to load music onto the player). It doesn't have all the bells and whistles because most people don't need them - but there is a huge array of available accessories to add capabilities to the iPod.
I haven't had one because I haven't had a need for a portable music player. But now that I'm using public transit more, it would be nice for commuting.
It is an odd thing, but every one who disappears is said to be seen at San Francisco. It must be a delightful city, and possess all the attractions of the next world.

Re: Nasty anti-iPod article, nastier illustration...
If iPods are a status symbol, who bought iPods in the first place?
I like having my 2579 songs with me everywhere I go.
I do think that a lot of people who have iPods shouldn't. The people who have less than 100 songs.
And I was using my iPod as an external hard drive for a while too.
If I didn't have an iPod I'd get an MP3 cd player.
Some people are just stupid. Like the writer of that article.

Many of you are getting too bent-out-of-shape over this article. Did no one but I think upon reading it that the author seemed to be an aspiring reporter for The Onion?

So you only like better products when no one else recognizes them as being better products? That's twisted, man.
How's that twisted? Mac addicts have been doing that for years.
From the article:
The iPod's success is purely a product of good marketing, not a superior product, he said.
That's true. For OS X users, the iPod is the most obvious and best choice. However, there are better audio players out there if you don't use OS X.

And most PC users own a copy of Windows 2000 or XP, but that doesn't mean it's the best OS available for them.

It's doesn't mean it's the worst OS for them either. (I'd personally say that honor belongs to Me.) There are some people who are "gasp!" slightly more productive on Windows than they are on Mac OS X or Linux just because of the way they are wired. Lord knows. In a free market people can choose to use what works best for them and they usually do. Of course comparing the PC market to a real free market is a bit of a joke. After all the level of monopoly one needs to over come in it simply does not exist anywhere else. Music players are an example where if someone would actually want something else they could easily get it and for relatively cheap.

I don't know why I bother. You're not going to get this.
MacAddicts have been liking better products despite the fact that no one else recognizes them as being better products. If everyone suddenly recognized the fact that Macs are better, it wouldn't change us liking macs.
His story is different. The product didn't change, the number of people who like it did, now he doesn't like it. He's changing his mind about appreciating the product once it became too popular.
