Programming On Your Mac
Does anyone here do a programming language on their Mac? I do Python, Applescript and Javascript. Programming on my Mac is pretty nice, I even find it easier than on the PC for some reason.
So, I'm the newest member here eh? Just thought I would get to know the fellow young mac users and let you know me. I just came from the Macworld forums *shudders* full of yes-men that liked whatever Apple made, which concludes to them lacking logic. You can see me at http://www.tpu.org usually or apple.com's messageboard (rarely).

Who doesn't like C++? It's such a useful language.
Like Python .

I'm pretty computer-savvy and would like to learn even more programming languages. Applescript will be my next. In your opinion, is it easy to learn? What have you made with it? My cousin made his iMac say "Hello" when it opened in the begginning. Which is pretty nice.

I'd say d/l the developer tools from apple and learn either c or java.
Some might argue C++, but im in the train of thought that believes that its better to learn C before you learn C++, and thats its better to learn a true Object Oriented language and not a partial one, and I simply don't know enough smalltalk to pimp it. If you are interested in java, just d/l the developer tools from apple here (free w/ sign up) and then steal instructions from a school. Like mine here just go though the slides and then you should have a good base.
If you want to learn c get the "Big C book" aka "the old testament" pictured here

I don't know if i woudl really call javascript a programming language either. Scripting yes, programming no. Im in this class now where the prof said we can do are assignments in any language we want. My buddy thought he was very clever doing his in javascript. The prof had the last laugh when we read the comment when he got his assignment back "any programming languag, not gloried html; 0/5"

Javascript is based on java. Just something simple you learn along the way of Webdesign. It's closer to a language than HTML. By the way, what University do you attend? Simon Frasier University? BCIT? Those are both pretty good schools for computers. I took a course on computers at BCIT when I was 12.
Your school should HAVE taught you how to use English properly.
I was actually doing some vernacular writing. Since you insist I do formal, from now on, whatever you write. I will correct. The worst thing a person can choose to do is correct my english. It's just not smart, as I will torment the person's grammar and conjunctions till he/she never comes back to the messageboard again.

Javascript is based on java.
Nope, javascript was just netscape trying to cash in the java name. No relation as java was developed by sun.

The University of Victoria of course. The forth rated comprehensive school in Canada. But i think the fact that is doesn't look liek a prison more than makes up for the fact that SFU is rated one spot higher.

That's a fragment, and I don't think Webdesign is a word, nor should it be capitalized.
I will correct.
That's a fragment,too.

Re: Programming On Your Mac
When I was going for the CS major, I used proj builder for C++ development. The only thing I would say VS.NET has over proj builder is the specifics in error messages and that little "this will turn into an error" message they throw at the bottom of the window. Like if you try calling a function you renamed a little earlier.
My roommate used his for C++ as well as Scheme projects, although any CS major at WWU will tell you that Scheme licks the cat's butt.
I should probably start developing again, as I told Apple that I was a student developer so I could get a rad t-shirt and a cheaper computer...

I live in the states right now. I will eventually have to move back to Canada. Not to many elite Universities there anymore, but none are completely bad. They are all average to above average.
I'm hoping a can go to Caltech or M.I.T. by working my ass off even more than I already am. Isn't Victoria University building a new medical wing?

Cocoa isn't either, Objective-C is the language, Cocoa are (is?) the frameworks.
Cocoa is to Objective-C as Carbon is to C, and in a way as CGI is to Perl.

It's original naem was Rhinoscript or something. Simply looking at ANY aspect of javascript and java will show the only thing they have in common is their name.

This is true considering that HTML is not a programming language, thus ANY programming language is closer to Java than HTML.
I don't really consider javascript a true programming language either, if you get nitpicky and call it a scripting language.

Re: Programming On Your Mac
C++ is god to me. Definately my favorite language. We got into a big discussion over this in applewire i think a few months back.
Also, Objective-C is a wrapper for carbon and C, so I guess you could consider it not a true language either. (Project Builder takes Objective-C turns it into C, then compiles it)
Sorry for the three posts.

Isn't Victoria University building a new medical wing?
That and a new engineering classroom building to go with our current lab and office buildings. That is if they can get rid of the hippies that are currently living in a tree protesting the fact that to make room for these two new building the school is going to cut down 20 some odd trees. Thats right, we have people living in trees for what is going on a month now to protest the school actually making use of the tuition hike.
