Re: Those darn tax and spend ... conservatives?

Yep, by raising taxes throug the stratosphere.  Truly a tax and spend politician.  When forced to choose between a taxer and a spender, and just a spender, I'll choose the latter evry time.  As I said, at least Bush managed to get one right.

I don't see the logic here. Regardless of whether or not Bush has tax money to pay for his government spending, the people will have to pick-up the tab at some point. We can either pay for it today, or we can pay for it tomorrow. As far as I can tell, his refusal to raise taxes while spending record amounts of government money just shows that he's irresponsible and willing to screw over the next several administrations in order to stay in office and keep his approval rating high. It's short-sighted and silly.

Good point.

Re: Those darn tax and spend ... conservatives?

When certain federal taxes are eliminated or truncated, monies are often taken from other sources to compensate.

So, if federal taxes are lowered, state and local taxes may increase.

One nice aspect of lowering federal taxes might be the elimination of the abuse of the American people by misappropriating their contributions in the quest for Iraq's oil. "Conservatives" often neglect to realize that our military requires federal taxes to sustain it. Should we privitize the military?

Umm ... okay.  confused

One thing that is happening is that while federally the Republicans are gung-ho for tax cuts, on the state level many are having to raise taxes to cope with their budget crisis. One suspects that, a few years down the road, the feds'll be in the same situation.

Also, Bush is the first president to cut taxes during a war. Will it be a good thing or a bad thing? Too soon to tell.
