Punk Discussion

Who doesn't love punk? I mean REAL punk not that Avril bullsmurf. Right now I'm really into Dropkick Murpheys, Gogol Bordelo, Anti-Flag, and abunch more I can't remember at the moment. In your opinion, who is the best Punk band, who's your favorites, and the biggest posers and/or sellouts?

You see, Avril was punk, but then she wasn't punk, because she said she was punk, so that ruined her punk image and, so, shortly before The Spongebob Squarepants Movie Soundtrack came out, she came out of punk retirement so that she could sing about a smurfing sponge under the sea.

Avril never has and never will be "punk". I have no idea why the 13 year olds of the nation insist she is.

Re: Punk Discussion

I've always loved Anti-Flag and NOFX. Still do. The entire Rancid "crew" is pretty cool too: F-Minus, Rancid, The Distillers, Lars F and the Bastards, ect. I just recently got into Refused, and I have to agree with the critics: The shape of punk to come is one of the best albums ever. Anti-Flag moved to RCA Records. Think what you will of the move.

Re: Punk Discussion

Hmm.. I dunno...
I'm a big fan of Fugazi (especially Repeater) and Minor Threat, but Mission of Burma is also good.

Biggest sellouts? Green Day/ Good Charlotte/ Sum 41. That trifecta I cannot stand. Avril is pretty bad too...

Re: Punk Discussion

Green Day sold out when they left Lookout. I've never liked any of their crap anyways. Minor Threat is a truly awesome band.

to an indie fan: any band that moves to a label where their band gets heard and they actually make a profit.
to a non-indie idiot: any band on a big label
to smart music fans(like me): A band that moves to a bigger label and begins to focus on the money and fame rather then the music.

Bands on big labels are fine, as long as they aren't making smurfy music.

Re: Punk Discussion

I'm just here because of my handle.

Oh, and anyone that actively looks to listen to only 'real' punk bands and try to find poseurs and sellsouts probably isn't a real punk. Just listen to what sounds good.

To me sellouts are people who made music because they love music, and then when they move on in their careers, do it for the money instead.  Any way some more bands are, Hot Water Music, The Dismemberment Plan, Tsunami Bomb, Sex Pistols, Dead Kennedys, basically every band on the SLC Punk sound track, and...I'm sure there's more...oh well maybe later.  Who do you think started punk rock? Ramones? Or before that even?

No question, it was Bach. Serious hardcore punk stuff.

I plain old don't like the misfits. I don't like their sound, their lyrics, their image, or anything else about them. The devilock is dumb. Horror punk is dumb. That little skull thing is dumb and overused. Black Flag flag was better.
