I'm so glad I wasn't the first poster to mention the Misfits. That would have been a disgrace.
I plain old don't like the misfits. I don't like their sound, their lyrics, their image, or anything else about them. The devilock is dumb. Horror punk is dumb. That little skull thing is dumb and overused. Black Flag flag was better.
But you certainly cannot deny how influential they were to almost every kind of "alternative" music type out there. I read somewhere than even Metallica and Guns and Roses have said that the Misfits were one of their inspirations in the early days. I like 'em.

Metallica and guns and roses are anti-punk.

Re: Punk Discussion
What the hell? Seriously, what the HELL?! I'm gone for about one month, and I have to go to the next page to look for this forum? I see we can still talk about Emo smurf, but not punk rock? NOOOOOOO NOT PUNK ROOOOOCK! We'd rather be sad and lonely, THAN COMING OUT OF A PIT, SOAKED IN SWEAT, AND NEVER FEELING MORE ALIVE IN YOUR LIFE! To quote S.L.C. Punk (which seems very appropriate in concerning this topic): "IT'S LIKE JEESUS smurfing CHRIST TOOK A smurf, AND IT LANDED RIGHT HERE!" COME ON YOU GUYS! PUNK'S NOT DEAD!

Emo and punk both suck. Neither is worth 20 pages of "discution".

Haha. I don't actually have any of their songs, but listening once to someone else's album of theirs, I liked their voice. Probably a bad example, as I really don't know if their entire work typifies the genre I'm trying to describe.

I've got something to say,
I killed your baby today.
It doesn't matter much to me,
As long as it's dead.
I've got something to say,
I raped your mother today.
It doesn't matter much to me,
As long as she's spread.
Oh lovely dead,
I'm just waiting for your breath.
Come sweet death.
One last caress.

"corporate stadium rock" would be the genre you're describing with Creed.

Casting Crowns is most definitely not rock.

I figured the drumwork and guitar style made them rock. How would you classify them?

Casting crowns: Christian rock.
Rammstein: German metal
Green Day: Sell out punk, thus anti-punk.

Re: Punk Discussion
Funny how people describe Green Day as a sellout band. I never was particularly fond of their style pre-American Idiot, which is the point at which most people tell me they sold out.

Casting crowns: Christian.
Fixed.
It's not even an example of Christian Rock, if one could even call that a classification. It's far too tame to be classified anything other than Contemporary Christian, and then it's too rough for old people because it contains people who can actually play instruments, even if it isn't that well, so they have no target audience in particular.

Re: Punk Discussion
Actually, Casting Crowns is one of the better bands I've heard instrumentally. Maybe I'm just not into the harder Marylin Manson/Ozzy Osbourne type music, but I'd hardly call them tame. At least no more so than any of the stuff they play on the local "new rock" station.
Have you listened all the way through either album of theirs?

I've been to two concerts where they've opened for better acts.
I had their self-titled debut. I ended up giving it to someone else that's probably getting more mileage out of it.
