Is that weighted or normal? Or does it not matter because the GPA is a silly system?

Re: My New Ford Focus!

i've heard nothing but good things about the Ford Focus.
i bet it is a fun car to drive.
if i was in the market for a Focus...
i would make sure to buy a manual gearbox...
makes a little peppy car that much more fun to drive.

A thought occurs: Do you have the original hatchback one, the 2005 US sedan version based on the original hatchback one or the new European hatchback one based around the same platform as the Volvo S40 and Mazda 3?

Re: My New Ford Focus!

Hey, congratulations! It's such a good feeling to get a new car.  A Focus gets pretty good gas mileage and it handles well. Downside is that it's not too roomy and the resale value is lousy, but my son's used 2003 model has proven itself to be very dependable. (He doesn't love it like he does my Totyota Corolla, but hey, the Focus is one of the best values for the price of all cars. I did the research before my son got his.)

Stay safe and have fun!

Re: My New Ford Focus!

Congrats on the new car.  Take care of it and it will take care of you.

As for the question of why new rather than used, when I got my new Explorer (last year) I got $2,000 "cash back" (yeah, I know, I know) plus the trade-in on my old car (a Toyota Camry), which brings us to about $7,000 off the list price, and to top it off I got 0% APR.  I couldn't come close to that kind of deal for quality v. quantity (of dollars) with any used vehicle at which I looked.

I have to ask why a person with a 3.9 GPA doesn't know that the plural of Badger is Badgers and not Badger's.  Perhaps the thing that dinged your 4.0 was English?

wink

EDIT:  Maybe it's not plural...  Maybe it's an unfinished possessive sentence?  Go Badger's what?  Badger's tail?  Badger's sex drive?  Badger's..?

Re: My New Ford Focus!

I guess "college budget" must mean different things to different people.  To me, college budget meant taking the bus or walking, or finally spending about $2,000 my senior year so that I could drive to my place of employment in the winter.  There was no way I would have wanted to pay for tuition, supplies, room and board, plus have a car payment, insurance, parking, gas, and repairs to think about.

Re: My New Ford Focus!

Congrats on the new car!! I'd like to be able to afford a new Focus, but despite my not-so-badly-paying job, I've ruled it out as too pricey.

I know a few people that have them (in the UK and Europe) and they're all really pleased with 'em - solid build and pretty reliable.

[checks-out fordvehicles.com]

Wow, that yellow is, wow crazy! They'd probably sell more if they didn't call it Egg Yolk Yellow though!!

So, how come over there for the 2005 Focus you get new headlamps, whilst Europe gets a whole new car (with new headlamps)?

Re: My New Ford Focus!

The U.S.A. sedan doesn't seem to be very similar style-wise to the hatchback (Rev 1 or II:Europe). Just like all the other Ford sedans, but the smallest.

Re: My New Ford Focus!

Awesome that you got a new car! The yellow is pretty out-there but it is an eye catcher!
Unfourtunatly down here we had a bad accident involvin a focus, Tahoe, and Infiniti FX. It was bad cuz I was right in the middle of it! Damn Tahoe driver made a quick, might I add illegal, turn into a gas station and got T-boned by the focus. The infiniti wasn't lookin and slammed into the mess. I was happy I wasnt in it cuz I had just finished payin off the damages from a week ago when some young whipper snapper rammed into my camry with his scooter. Terrible stuff. Keep safe son.

Re: My New Ford Focus!

Hmmmm...two days after registering you start calling people homosexual and you're bragging about spending "poor starving college student" money on the most recalled vehicle in history. I hope your car proves serviceable.  They are fun to drive, but some of the stuff they have had go wrong with them is downright scary.  I read their quality has improved for '05 but taking something bad and making it better just turns it to "so-so".  I've never seen a car make that much of a turnaround in a model year, so congrats on the purchase and good luck!

Yeah, well, I got into UW with a 2.9
Sounds like you were working too hard. tongue

And I'm in engineering, lol.

BTW, I drive a red ford focus ZX3 (hatchback).  It was 6000$ used and works great.  Just drove it across the country to go to school here.  The most expensive thing I've had to do to it was replace the tires because the tread had worn too thin.

If you had a 3.9, what are you doing at a state school? I know people with lower gpas going to princeton, harvard, yale....

Because state schools can be comparable to those?

Re: My New Ford Focus!

yes, but why work your ass off in high school, to go to a school that isn't as selective?

I go to a state school, which is a great school (u-pitt).

All the people I know that are going to ivy worked their ass off because they wanted to go to one of those schools.

I never said anything about any school being better than another. My school is public, and has tied with ivy for certain prestigious scholarships.

To be perfectly honest, I think one compelling reason would be not to burn out in college, especially if you want to go to grad school.

Yeah.  I'd also point out that in California, at least, a 3.9 doesn't guarantee you admission to a selective school.  I had a 3.8 and was rejected from UCLA and UC Berkeley.

Yeah, we should go to MiniThink and have a fight about homophobes, homosexuals, and the ever increasing debt load of the average American.  We can call each other names over the internet which will allow us instant gratification in our "must have it now" society.  It'll be fun.  We could even give out prizes.
