No really.  It's not you, it's me.

I just don't think I'd be comfortable tailgating with some random guy I met on MAF.

But now that I think about it, I'm not even sure where I'll be tailgating this year with the radio lot gone.  sad

Re: It's College Football Time, Kiddos!

I love American football. I can't stand Canadian football. I miss going to the games. I think college ball is way better than CFL (sorry fellow canucks). I've spent my entire weekend watching what was on. I say the ND vs. Pitt game among others. very good. I've always been a ND fan, being part Irish and all. smile Never liked Dave Wannstedt either.

Next week NFL gets started. I've already ordered NFL Sunday Ticket.

Marquette has had far worse identity crisis than Iowa State.

And holy smurf we have an offense now. apparently we traded that 6 points against average defense for it

i fell asleep watching the Clemson/A&M game... sad

from the headlines this morning, it looked like i missed a good second half - since i'm from SC and went to A&M, i wish i hadn't been so tired... 30 hrs/wk of work + 16 semester hrs wears me out, though.

Pitt will still have a good season.  Wannestedt is going to be a great coach- it just hasn't come together just yet.

One thing I found telling- after that one play where #51 on Pitt (forget his name) got called for a personal foul for kicking Brady Quinn while he was down (gave ND a 1st down on what should've been a 4th)-  when this #51 got to the sidelines, Wannestedt just kind of shrugged at him and shook his head.  Strikes me that a college football coach should be a little more, not aggressive, but hyped about such things...

Interesting. On of the things I always hated about Wannestedt was the fact that he was always shouting and yelling on the sidelines so bad when coaching the NFL, that he was actually spitting at the players. I always thought him a classless act.

I would agree there is a fine line- especially in college football.  It just seems like if you're down by 21 points and you've finally stopped them only to have it wasted by a stupid (and major) penalty, that player needs to be made aware that that is unacceptable.

That was a vacation for the Trojans. That's what happens when you win a National Championship, they give you cream-puff games early on. I mean, Texas vs Lafeyette or whoever it was? We played Sac State, fer crying out loud. And Oklahoma got an easy game against TCU... oh, wait...

Re: It's College Football Time, Kiddos!

Cal is in a pretty bad qb situation (not to mention a mediocre line and ineffective D), and imo I don't think any of the top 25 teams are decent at all, save SC.  That said, I hope we (Cal) can pull a QB out of our ass, since our starter is now out for the season and we're stuck with a freshman.  Regardless, I think 3 or 4 teams above us all lost, so we'll at least be moving up in the totem pole a bit before people realize how bad we really are.

Sharkey, hit me up, we Cal-ers must unite!

No kidding.  I had several people ask me who the smurf Bowling Green was after asking "Who are you playing this weekend?"

And goandeatsomestuff, Cal doesn't have a football team.  Last year was fun, but a fluke at best.  Sorry to let you down. :p  The school is known for its rigorous academic program, not its rigorous football program.

Bowling Green and TCU are not cream-puff games.  And anyone who asks who Bowling Green is obviously does not follow college football.  --In '03 they only lost to Miami(OH) and Ohio State.  They also beat Purdue that year and a very good NIU team.
They also beat the craptastic Big Televen team, Northwestern, in their bowl game.

It is not even half time yet, and FSU is up 10-7.
However, I think it is fairly obvious that FSU will probably lose this game.

Miami definitely should have won that game.  FSU caught all the breaks and still barely won.  They look terrible.

Re: It's College Football Time, Kiddos!

No, no, my freshmen year we didn't have a football team (1-10). Now we have something better than football, we have Tedford. Yeah, we really need to fix the QB situation NOW, but our defense isn't embarrassing, and we've got a great running game (so far). I think our O-line is one of the best, which made the sucking of the QB's that much worse.

I'm busy before the Illinois game, and w/ the new stupid system, everyone will be late anyway. But after that my friends and I usually go to Bear's Lair. Maybe we'll switch it up and go to Ralleigh's, if my friend isn't still 86'd (long story).

Re: It's College Football Time, Kiddos!

Anyone want to place a wager?  I bet UH Warriors get the snot beaten out of them this weekend.  And you know what?  I'll be laughing, because UH really shouldn't even be Division I football.

Someone told me, "how come you have no pride in your school?  I do!"  I was tempted to respond: "well, first and foremost, you never attended the college, because you got your girlfriend pregnant and now all you do is eat and drink cheap ass beer at games.  Secondly, I have more pride for other factions of my university then football, because football benefits the fat and lazy who watch it while genetic research benefits everyone."

But seriously, who wants to place a wager that UH will lose to Michigan.  Heck, Michigan should just bring the junior varsity here.  Playing football in Hawaii is a joke, its more of a vacation for the players and coaches.

Re: It's College Football Time, Kiddos!

I thought my newly ascendant ND Irish were scheduled in Michigan this week.

I'm a 'Weis-guy'. (Also, a native New Englander who's Patriots benefitted from his offensive stuff these last few Super Bowls.)

Impressed by how they handled Pitt. Can they do it to the Wolverines, too? On back-to-back road games?

Go Irish!

We shall find out.  I think it will be a close game with the final score within one touchdown.
