Re: It's College Football Time, Kiddos!
I'm a Husker, and I'm pretty scared about this season. We have our hopes that it will be a turn around from our first losing season in forever... but we didn't look very impressive against Division II Maine... and that is just frightening.
We play Wake Forest at home (our first 5 games are home games) so that will be a better test. Our defense looked great, but our offense just sputtered. TURNOVERS... just non-stop turnovers.
We'll see.
What would you do if I sang out of tune? Would you laugh and then beat me to a pulp?

And Michigan, which gave up over 400 yards to NORTHERN ILLINOIS does?

Last season the Huskies ranked No. 11 in NCAA team rushing (238.2 yards-per-game), No. 13 in team 1-A scoring (35.1 ppg), and No. 14 in total offense (438.8 ypg).
So, in a word, yes.
In addition, the Michigan D might be a little more pumped for revenge against the Irish than they were for an NIU opener.

Very true. This is one of the things I am looking forward to and why I like big games like this: both sides are going to be playing pumped up football. It will be a fun game to watch.

Go Vols! This off week is going to be a long one for me. And the following week will be even longer with Florida looming on the horizon. They certainly didn't imbue me with confidence in their game v. UAB. But, then, Tennessee pretty much always starts off slowly and almost always plays (up or down) to the abilities of their opponents.
As for USC... It's easy to be the #1 pick for this season when you don't play a single top 10 team all year. I hope they get caught with their pants down by Arkansas or Fresno State.

No team in the top 10 wants to face USC b/c a loss will knock them out of a lucrative BCS bowl. Look at what happened to Cal and Auburn, and USC in 2003. When you have millions of dollars at stake, you don't want to play the #1 team until the very end, when you make your money anyway. Too bad Cal ALWAYS plays USC, every single freakin' year. (Too bad for USC, that is!)

Well, SC vists South Bend. So I'm hoping Charlie Weis can give a fine Irish welcome to Pete Carroll.
Then, two weeks later we take on the Vols!
Of course, I'd be satisfied with a win this Saturday visiting that Wolverine ho in the Big House.

Re: It's College Football Time, Kiddos!
This is sad. This only raises the hopes and expectations of ND fans, who will be horribly, HORRIBLY disfigured and destroyed and gutted by USC.
Also, why is a game like Ohio St/Texas so early in the season? That should be a serious game for later in the season, when the drama is all built up.
