New PB early 2006 with Yonah dual-core?

With Intel Yonah roll out early 2006, are we going to see pb  Mactel Dual-core announcement come Jan from Steve? I am ready and excited! this is good stuff!

Quote" Intel's 65nm dual-core Pentium M successor, codenamed 'Yonah', will ship at 1.67, 1.84, 2.0 and 2.17GHz when it debuts early next year, the latest company roadmaps to be made public reveal.

The four dual-core incarnations will be accompanied by just one 2MB L2 single-core version of the part, as Intel had already announced, clocked at 1.67GHz."

Re: New PB early 2006 with Yonah dual-core?

Every time Apple makes a promise about a product before units are in production they seem to get burned pretty bad.  Think G4 stuck at 500 MHz, or 3GHz G5 in a year.  Even with the promising future from the Intel partnership I doubt Apple will risk the same mistake the third time.

Does anyone think there will be an update for PowerBooks this month? I mean, with the G4s.

I don't think there is any current G5 laptop cpu nor dual core G5 for Mac in general!

I highly doubt we'll see a Mactel in early 2k6. I couldn't see OS X being "mature" enough on x86 by then, and I don't see there being too many apps for OS X86 by then.

Well, I hope you are wrong
everyday we move closer to the "timeframe" that Apple is suppose to migrate to x86, the harder it is for Apple to sell current generation PPC because most Mac user know what is coming,  and with Mac(except for mini) purchase price, it is never a moment but rather a major money investment!

I think it's generally futile to predict what computers will be like 600 years from now, although it is probably safe to say that Intel Macs will have shipped by then.

I thought I remeber Steve's WWDC keynote saying that the first Mactels will be shipping around June of '06.....

I can see apple switching the iBooks or even Pbooks over as soon as possible - 'course i am biased because I will be buying the first intel powerbook when it comes out.

Re: New PB early 2006 with Yonah dual-core?

Chances are iBook won't come before PowerBook, as apple would probably not have a consumer line more powerfull than the pro line..

Not necessarily true...is a consumer line more powerful if 3/4 of the apps are running under emulation?  I would think the pro lines are coming later.  I have always felt they were going to release a dual core powerbook and a switch to an intel in the iBook and a dual core powerbook still gives the powerbook an advantage....until a majority of the apps are universal binaries.

They might wait for Merom to ship later in 2006.

Well I really don't care when they come out, espically if they have lower clock speeds,
im gonna buy my powerbook whenever I get all my money together.

I bet less than half of Mac users know, and I bet much, much less than half of Apple's target market for switchers knows.

I have a feeling though that once the Intel Mac ship, the resale value of PPC Macs will plummet.
