You would look cooler wearing shorts and a tank top on a Gixxer or R1.
It's so weird that you should say that. I had to scan over the thread just to double check that I hadn't already mentioned my young, new coworker.
When I mentioned that I was about to get a motorcycle she lit up. "A crotch rocket?"
"Um... no, it's a cruiser."
"Oh..."
She really wants a crotch rocket. It's her idea that she gets out there on one in the smallest pairs of shorts she can find, the tightest shirt she can find, some cute shoes - you know, to really show herself off - and a helmet (there's that at least). She demonstrated exactly how she's going to throw her butt back for the hot guys she passes. If they're hot enough, she may lift the visor of her helmet and let them see her face; if they're dogs she'll just leave the visor down and "leave them wondering."
Um... I didn't want to beat her about the head about what a bad idea that is. It will probably be quite some time before she goes through with this plan; she also wants to buy a house before she thinks about getting one, which is considerably more sensible and time consuming. I suggested that if she ever does get the bike that she should take the course.

Glad to hear you had a good first run
You are now officially bitten by the motorcycle bug, and it is a hard virus to shake. Now, do yourself a favor and start setting aside some money for a nice dirt bike...as fun as the street is, riding in the dirt is equally, if not even more incredible. My brother and I ride in the mountains here in Colorado, and we just returned from a weekend down in Moab, UT. The scenery can't be beat and the challenges get as gnarly as you would dare. I would be happy to share some pics with you if you would like

I don't think I'll be doing that anytime soon. But hell yes, hit us up with the pics.

She's hardly unique, though by far most idiotic squid poseurs are men. Women at least have the reputation of riding sensibly, getting training, and wearing proper gear. Ah, squids. I've known many over the years.

Really? Man, it's too bad they didn't know to get in touch with you first, they were searching for YEARS.

Once that was done he showed me back to the rear of the shop and introduced me to my bike. He got me all set up with the minute ins and outs of controling it - I guess I looked like a n00b.
yeah, i think they do that to most people. did it to me when i got my new bike.
Problems I encountered:
- I need to work on accelerating from a stop. At first, I kept stalling. ... the most harrowing moments were definitely based around stalling out at intersections.
- It was far too short. Probably that's best for a first go, but I wanted to keep going.
- U turns on tight roads. Eek.
it took me only about an hour to get the hang of accelerating from a stop. and then a couple more weeks before i stopped stalling at all. and The Ride is never long enough. till your ass hurts that is, then it's too long. as for the U-turns, yea they suck. but they get easier. try this- go to an empty parking lot and practice following the yellow dividing lines that run between the stalls. follow one way then U turn as sharply as you can and then go back on the next line over.
i don't remember if i ever posted about my new bike that i got back on July 1 of this year. it's a 2005 Honda Shadow Spirit 750. here i am, posing with the bike:

I just noticed this post. Next time I need to take out a Terminator I'll strap some rocket launchers on the sides of that. Then I'll kick some names and take some a... that's can't be right.
Anyway, it's a bit more bike than I need.

It's growing out again. Give me two more days and it'll just look like I had a VERY short haircut.

Re: What have I done?
Today I leared how hard it is to take a picture at high speed at night on an S40 (and how fast you can really go on those things).
1) You have to make sure you don't get the flash reflected back at you.
2) You have to make sure you're in JUST the right angle with the street lamp.
3) You have to avoid going off the road while you're paying attention to taking the picture.
4) You have to take your helmet off entirely so you can see what the hell you're doing with the camera.
There are a dozen little things you need to do, including getting the settings right on the camera. Once you do, though, you can get a shot like this. It takes work, though.

Hello, Allstate?
Yeah, I need to put a life policy on this guy named Oatmeal.
No, I'll only need it for about a week.

Oh, I forgot to mention one other thing you need for a picture like that... at least a little ability with some sort of digital picture editing program.
I took the picture in the garage, at a complete standstill. I edited it from 0 to 100+ for an avatar over at a motorcycle forum I've been looking at.

Oh, and you should be ashamed of yourself, raising my blood pressure like that.

Oh, I pulled the same prank over there too. I gave them about a half an hour (in which there were no replies) before I reeled in the bait and gave the real story - they don't know me as well as I'm known here. I got a flurry of responses right after confessing, mostly consisting of "You had me going
" type posts. Aparently several people had seen it and had no idea how to reply to someone doing something THAT stupid and bragging about it. Especially since I'd been all about safety in my other posts.

I knew something was up immediately. I doubt an S40 can get much over 90 mph (indicated).
