Re: Movie
From what I've seen so far, the 360 does support at least a USB keyboard; allegedly moreso with the recent Dashboard update that rolled out. As far as mice go, though, I haven't really tested. MS has said, though, that the games have to be coded to make use of such devices, so while its not entirely out of the question, you certainly won't see a kb/m as standardized input for the 360 game library.
Now I want to go home and test my mouse with the 360, and run through the new PDZ maps while I'm at it.

Re: Movie
Thanks, I'll have to check that out. It could make the difference between getting one soon, while finances are somewhat favorable, and maybe not getting one at all. Lately it's been my biggest reason to wait or not get one.
M/kb support won't be coded in, but if I can get any mouse working the old way, that's good enough. Any word on USB 1.1/2.0, or update about your own trials? Mouse is more important than keyboard. Accepting the G5's input might seal the deal.
(And... XBL puck? I'm ready to cancel Live, unless this works and 360 has its own way of doing whatever that did. I don't remember anymore).

Re: Movie
Puck. Today, I swear.
One more reason I like the 360. The puck's features are built into the controller and the headset, so you don't need an intermediary device to get the same functionality. You just plug the headset into the controller, and your volume and mute controls are on the plug itself.
Anyway, I'm packing lunch for work right now, and I'll just pack the puck with it. I've got a post office right across the parking lot from my building. I'll send it Priority Mail, so you should get it damned fast.

Re: Movie
Kewlness. I've been seriously considering that 360, to make sure having one for GoW and H3 and mo' better H2 while waiting for Vista. Would have to reconcile to the controller, tho, so it'd be for the experience, not the mad skilz part.
Kb/m is a no-go. Research sez controller needs a special chip to initialize. Maybe someone can devise a way to combine a mouse, kb and 360 controller just to intialize the setup, but so far...
Newegg sells 'em, so I could get one plus a VGA cable for the price of just the system plus tax locally. Pondering...

Re: Movie
Wait... the 360 won't even initialize without recognizing a chip in one of its controllers?
Hmm... that means the media remote has said chip in it. That remote was free with the console, and costs next to nothing on the used market. I may have to buy a few and dig out my soldering iron to run some tests.

Something like that. In the L-S Forums I found

has any one tried this + a smart joy frag on a xbox 360 yet?I have tried another USB adapter, and no, nothing works.
The problem is not a connection issue. You can hook everything up just fine. The problem is that the 360 simply will not recognize anything connected to it unless it has the "special 3rd party" chip that MS requires all 3rd party accessories to have.

as fockyoumang said, could you open up a 360 controller, take out that chip, put it in the frag and then use the adapter? seems like that would work for me. all you electrical engineers out there, get to work!!!
&
I wonder if they could make the adaptor so that you plug a mouse, keyboard and a 360 gamepad (for the the chip registration).
Etc. Paralleling a 360 controller with a Smartjoy Frag might just work, and be easier than digging a chip out and resoldering it.

Re: Movie
just to add my own thoughts...
halo movie, it sounds pretty exciting. yeah, i'll be checking it out for sure.
just one question: will it be all computer animated characters with voice-overs, or will actors actually act in person?
Have your cake, but save it for later.

I'm saving up to buy the Wart Hog when it makes its way to Ebay.

Sometimes low tech is better. If it were fusion, the Aussie voice'd be strange telling you to 'give it some gas' leaving the Delta Halo LZ.
Think WETA. Think LOTR prop and set quality. Think Halo.

Maybe we'll get some "Alien" or "Aliens" Action here! (Queen stabbing people with the tail)
Someone just saves the day, then slam, an energy sword appears in their chest
I just want to know what the deal is with the shield on Master Chief... Is it going to be like the books where the plasma seems to go through the shield like it wasn't there, or more like the game where you can take a few hits before you start to feel pain (obviously it wouldn't be like normal difficulty where you can take like 50 hits before your shield finally dissipates)

How 'bout a Jacob's Ladder with a crystal overlay?
(Me
the sword. Great with it with m/kb; not so with controller. Sword plus shottie equals Floodie buzzsaw.)

Re: Movie
Fair amount around the Web about the director, findable thru HBO (recent news). B.net still can't say anything, says it's the 'have to clear everything thru MS & Universal' logjam. Something promised for soon.

Re: Movie
So Fox and Universal backed out because MS/Bungie refused to renegotiate financial things with them at the last minute (at the studios' prompting). Pre-production is still continuing strong thanks to the determination of both MS/Bungie and WETA. Apparently they've casted a Master Chief, and are actually really excited about the studios dropping out, since they showed that all they cared about was the $ figures.
