I am so smurfing tired of this smurf
You know what I'm smurfing tired of? Guys latching on to me because I'm a girl and I like computers. Get the smurf over it. Leave me the smurf alone.
God smurfing dammit.

Re: I am so smurfing tired of this smurf
It could be worse.... you could be a guy that likes computers. Significantly fewer people want to latch on to them.
You have options, revel in it.

Yeah, do you have any idea how hard it is to find a female geek??
I am neither the Alpha or the Omega, I am the instrument of your destruction.

Is that why your avatar disappeared? Try being the only girl working at a computer store. I had a real honest to goodness stalker whose amorous advances were a direct result of my computer knowledge. After awhile, you get used to it. Actually, it's kinda fun!
/well, not the stalker part-he was weird

Re: I am so smurfing tired of this smurf
:sigh: yeah, they are kind of pathetic.
But some of the time, it's not just because you're a geek - it's because you're female. In a lot of circles, that in and of itself is a novelty and what's between your ears (impressive as it is, I'd like to add) isn't really the issue. I spent two years in computer science courses, and during that time, I had the same three conversations.
1) The Star Trek/Wars conversation.
2) The Naked Star ____ Character conversation.
3) The "my computer is biger than yours" conversation.
These are not, by and large, people who know how to conduct themselves in social settings.

A man would screw a snake if he could hold its mouth open.
My geometry teacher told me that, which in and of itself makes me cringe.
I also think men are attracted to girls who have a general characteristic that's outside of the norm. That might be an interest in computers, video games, porn-whatever. It's good to have a real personality.

Agreed. It's like being a female musician. Most musicians (at least on a certain level) are male and when a female musician is introduced into the mix, things get bad, fast.
Depeachmood, you're young, good looking and intelligent. Get out of the computer circle to find guys. Either that or talk about everything but 'geek' stuff, just to weed out the latcher-ons. If that doesn't work, tell them to back the smurf off.
I was going to suggest you tell them you're gay but that would only encourage them.

Re: I am so smurfing tired of this smurf
When I was your age, I discovered that they weren't interested at all in what I said, but the fact that we had something in common gave them an oppurtunity to carry their half of the converstion, instead of stuttering around and making their lack of social graces painfully obvious.
At that point I realized I could yack and yack and yack on about absolutley nothing (it helps that I'm blonde) until their eyes glazed over, but there they'd sit, nodding and smiling enthusiastically, having no clue where to go from there.
Eventually this attention from men tapers off, but unless you get fat or have 6 toddlers clinging to your skirt, not until yo hit 40 or so.

My husband told me he watched a guy at Target fall in love with me when I said aloud, "Hey, check out the Torchic on these kids' cups!" Yeah, I like videogames too.

Wow, not a single person in my computer science class is like that. We're all normal people who happen to like computers.
I think it's like the recent trend with video gamers - they used to be hardcore geeks, but now it's impossible to tell the difference between gamers and non-gamers.
With my best friend at my side,
I face the new day in full stride.
I don't know what the future holds,
But I'll be waiting, proud and bold.

Yeah Peach, I know what you mean. The instant I mention my PowerBook in a bar, all the ladies start to bug me and stuff. It's rough, but we have to be strong and not let them get to us.

30 years ago when i was your age, a female with looks AND intelligence was about like finding virgins in Las Vegas.

Re: I am so smurfing tired of this smurf
I married a girl with looks and brains. Unfortunately, she is utterly uninterested in computers beyond basic word processing and joke forwarding.
I sometimes fantasize about an evening spent discussing hardware specifications, backside cache and bandwidth with Jessica Simpson. Then I realize she would think I'm talking dirty and slap me. Poof. I wake up.

Sorry to hear you're having so much trouble, peach, but when you use your pic as an avatar on a public board, as well as post a picture of yourself in a bikini, you should expect attention, whether you want it or not.
