Re: lame verizon phones
My LG 3100 has no red interface, just the black LCD and the green backlight. Gizmodo said something about the RAZR this month, so thanks Phydeaux! My only concern about it is batt life and OBEX, but if it has the latter, I can live with having to charge my phone once a night.

Re: lame verizon phones
The new phones, I mean. Any of them with color screens have this new interface, which is a royal disgrace.

Re: lame verizon phones
No to OBEX from what I'm seeing dcalfine. Unless there's a hack like on the E815. let's pray for it.
But, really, Verizon standardized the interface on all their phones across the line? When did this happen?
More importantly, HOW could this happen?

Re: lame verizon phones
It's ugly and perhaps not so well fleshed out-but they did it for a good reason. Imagine a 70 year old woman calling Verizon all flustered because she got a picture message from her grandkids but can't open it. Given that she could have a Motorola, LG, Samsung, etc. it doesn't matter because the phone rep knows the interface like the back of his hand. He doesn't have to look up the information or find a phone to give her specific instructions. Grandma's happy, employee is happy, and life moves on.
I could really do without the red, still.

If it doesn't have OBEX, I don't want it. But then again I currently have anLG 3100.
I don't know what you people are talking about the same interface, the only interface I see is the black LCD and the green backlight.

Re: lame verizon phones
They didn't do the standard interface until the VX7000, long after your (black and white) 3100 was made.

But you see, that's the thing. I would think due to the file structures and how things are set up in the phone that making a uniform UI across all the different brands of phones would be impossible. Would programming still be the same -- i.e., entering via "Menu 073887" on the Motorola and "Menu 0 - 000000" on an LG still work the way it's supposed to?
The whole thing reeks of bizarrity to me, and putting the branding of the service as the important factor over the branding of the phone is like putting the cart before the horse.

Re: lame verizon phones
They waste far more time on the phone with Grandma than they do complicated stuff. Well, not waste but you get my meaning. People don't sign contracts with Verizon for their phones. They are known for a great network and "bend over backwards" service. Besides, I'm loving the new LG 9800 I just got. Very sweet phone.

Not officially. Time to check a phone forum to see if it's been hacked yet.

Unfortunately, I don't know that first thing about a Samsung. It says right there on the page, though, that it doesn't support OBEX, so that kind of kills the ability to use the bluetooth file transfer in Mac OS X.

Re: lame verizon phones
sheesh im not even american and i knew the razr was coming to verizon.
http://mobilitytoday.com/news/verizon_v3c_razr.html
"The CDMA version of the popular RAZR ultra-thin clamshell phone. Key features include EV-DO high-speed data, Bluetooth, and a megapixel camera with video capture. Other features include dual color displays, speakerphone, speaker-independent voice dialing, and an internal antenna. Users should note the interior LCD of the V3c and original V3 are the same."
its a darker titanium grey colour, not black or silver...inbetween. and looks rather nice.

1. Is there a hack?
2. Is there a wired way to talk with Mac OS X
3. What about VPC, can that help me?

The link doesn't lead to a phone.
If your/that phone has a memory card in addition to the Sim card, just transfer all pics to the memory card and stick the card in a card reader.

Sorry, I forgot that the link requires your zip code. It does have a memory card (TransFlash I think, which I have never heard of) so I guess that everything is good. Awesome, thanks!

It doesn't support OBEX. It says so on the website when you click on the Bluetooth icon, in the fine white print that finally appears on the bottom.

A lot of people are not going to know until after the 28th. At least, that's the most I know.

Re: lame verizon phones
in that case, what is the best verizon phone? I'm perfectly content with my service, I just can't find a good phone. Anything that is not a PDA. THe more feats, the better. The better the camera, the better.

Re: lame verizon phones
With few exceptions, I'm thrilled with the LG 9800. I can put a whole seasons' worth of my favorite TV show on an SD card and the internal screen is fantastic. The whole back of the phone works like a "real" camera. I'm pretty certain the price will go down soon.
/I bow down to Bitpim and my card reader, who needs OBEX anyway?

Re: lame verizon phones
it seems too big to me. But how's the camera quality? That might be the overriding factor.
Also, the point of OBEX for me is to send the pictures I take to me Cingular friend's cell while standing in the same room as him.
