Re: SATs
Who told you they were easy, if you don't mind me inquiring?
I was always told the SATs were harder than, say, an ACT, so I took that out of sheer laziness and not wanting to study for anything rougher. Got me into the college I wanted.

If you don't have a TI-89, borrow one. And learn how to use the solve( function with multiple equations.

89's are street legal? I thought they were considering banning 84's...

When I took it, we were not allowed to use graphing calculators.

Sure, any calculator without a QWERTY keyboard is legal. No V200, but the 89 does everything it does.

Re: SATs
I hardly studied, and got a 1290. The SATs, like most other things in high school, are overrated.

Are you positively sure about that, because I recall a nice big list of calculators that were banned. The TI-92... was it the 92 or 91? No matter, was banned.

Yeah, the 92 had a QWERTY keyboard though. In the same line as the V200.

If it had had a dvorak keyboard, that might have been OK.

It's not too hard to design problems that the TI Calculators will get wrong when they find roots etc. - so be sure you know how to CHECK the output of the calculator.

It depends on how much you already know. I've been a programmer for 7 years, so it's no wonder I got a perfect score on the math section. However, the verbal was really hard for me since I hardly ever read books. Someone else might find the verbal part very easy and the math part hard.
If you want a straight answer, just buy a good SAT book and look at the questions. Only you will know how easy/hard the questions are for you.

Wow.... 2 years ago for me....
I don't think they are really a problem if you know how to work past their little tricks.
And they really are overrated.

SO glad I'm done with those. If you know the tricks, you'll be fine. Buy the latest book, study the questions, they will probably be the exact same questions reworded a little differently. You have to write an essay too! HAHAHAHAHA

Re: SATs
They're not terribly difficult, but they're by no means ridiculously easy.
I didn't study and got a 2170/2400. That translates to roughly a 1450 on the old scale.
I would recommend getting one of those books and doing a practice test or two. Can't hurt.

I second that notion. Sadly, one of the toughest math questions you will encounter on a test that measures your readiness for colloge is a systems of equations problem. The 89 will take care of those for you, and just about everything else you will need to do. Have fun

Oh yeah, and do lots of practice essays. I didn't do badly on the essay, but I made 130 less on the writing section than on the math or verbal.

Re: SATs
The hardest thing by far is the essay. 25 minutes is not enough to write anything worthwhile. You'll want to do several practice runs on that part during the week running up to the test.
There usually some trick questions at the end of each section, so try rewording hard questions to see if you can make sense of them. Often the hardest part of a question is figuring out what they're asking.
Otherwise, I'd say study up on Geometry and basic Algebra II and make sure your grammar is good, and you should do fine.
