Re: Facebook genius
Really? They said they'd added all the universities here as of a few weeks ago, and that's why they started the high school version.

Facebook seems more like an online dating service. . . .

Facebook:
-Unified layout, clean, streamlined
MySpace:
-God-awful HTML made by people with no design sense
-Unsolicited embedded movies and music that bog down even fast Net connections
-Unsolicited sleazy people and pictures (I go elsewhere for those.)
There. You don't have to guess which one I favor.
Now, since this thread wasn't meant to compare the two, I'd like to know more about this server and hostname stuff.
Bravery is not a function of firepower.

Most people with enough taste to choose facebook over Myspace would also have enough taste that they wouldn't buy the kitchy and generic garbage that's sold at store like A&F or AE.

I like AE's non-destroyed, non-faded jeans. And a few of their button down shirts aren't to bad if you have to go somewhere/do something that a tshirt won't suffice.

HOORAY
You can, if you can somehow get your own computer on your school of choice campus's network.
Or if you know someone at said school that'll let you install a mail server (temporarily) on their computer.

Actually, for just one account, all you need is a college email account.

But it is kinda hard to get a college email account if you're already out of college.

Probably for people who get one while in college, and then they actually graduate (
).
I told my friend about it though who lives on campus and he has created 3 extra Willy Wonka themed characters already.

Re: Facebook genius
Some universities allow access to your e-mail upon graduation, otherwise you just have to get the account made before you lose access to the address.

If you have access to a school alumni email address, then you can easily register for and use Facebook. Currently we require that everybody register with a valid school-affiliated email address.
Mine allows this. Oh, and something else I did which was neat: registered the hostname "facebook," so when someone types in "facebook" sans the ".com," it goes to my server which redirects to my facebook profile. Average of > 1000 hits/week.
I have been asked to remove my infamous Avatar by a moderator, and I shall reluctantly comply.
Rest in peace, my friend.

Huh? You mean on your campus network?
I told my friend about your trick on using the university domain and a mailserver, and he created some oompa loompas on facebook.

Re: Facebook genius
I changed my status to alumni even though I can no longer access Berkeley's email. They let me keep my account. I think you're just screwed Phy.

Yup. Unless I go back for a class of something, and bully an IT freshman into permanently removing any flags on my account.
But I don't think facebook is worth that.
